Job Overview

Southwood Trucking Ltd. is seeking a qualified Human Resource Officer with a minimum experience of 2 years of Human Resource experience. The incumbent should be proficient with current employment laws and regulations (Occupational Health and Safety, Alberta labour standards, Workers Compensation Board). This is a permanent, full-time position.

Identify current staffing requirements by working with the Operational Manager to develop a list of staffing strategies and needs (number of vacant positions, skill shortage, salary, etc.)
Collect information, prepare and post ads on different platforms (Indeed, Technical Institutes and colleges for technical positions). Post advertisements for technical positions on college websites (apprentice positions). Shortlist and screen applicants by reviewing the resume and applications based on established criteria for the job. Prepare a list of the shortlisted candidates with their qualifications for the manager to review.
Benchmark the compensation for each position by researching wages from competitors for the advertised position. Consult with manager to align compensation and benefits, thereby assisting in determining the appropriate wage for each position.
Coordinate and schedule in-person interviews. Clarify information for potential hires pre- and post-interviews.
Prepare and send offer letters and contracts with the terms and conditions for the managers to review.
Prepare redeployment and transfer letters for internal candidates selected for redeployment.
Answer queries from employees pertaining to company procedures and policies (health and safety policy, workplace violence and harassment policy, etc.)
Handle complaints, grievances and disputes by guiding the employee/manager on the employment laws and regulations.
Prepare reports for the relevant body/authority (ex. WCB).
Plan and coordinate staff training or professional development on the advice of the manager.
Provide support to employees with regards to the health benefits program including the employee assistance program and counselling services. Manage and follow up on Occupational health and safety to ensure compliance.

Experience

English proficiency is a must

Minimum 1 to 2 years postsecondary diploma in human resources management and services, business administration, or related field.

Minimum experience required: 2 years

Pay: $37.00 per hour
