Position Description
We are currently seeking motivated, hardworking Class 3 or 1 Environmental Technician/Driver for our industrial division at our Kelowna area liquids waste location.
Position Responsibilities
- Operate company vehicles including waste oil collection trucks, bulk tank trucks, and box trucks in a safe and professional manner.
- Collect, transport, load, and unload hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials from industrial, commercial, automotive, and municipal customers.
- Perform physical handling of drums, pails, totes, and containers using appropriate material handling equipment including drum dollies, pallet jacks, tailgate loaders, and forklifts.
- Complete waste collections at customer locations while ensuring compliance with TDG, WorkSafeBC, environmental regulations, and company safety procedures.
- Conduct waste identification, container inspections, labeling verification, and documentation prior to transportation.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and ensure vehicles and equipment are maintained in a clean and serviceable condition.
- Complete manifests, bills of lading, shipping documents, logbooks, and electronic paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provide professional customer service while representing the company at industrial facilities, automotive shops, construction sites, municipalities, and transfer stations.
- Assist with warehouse and facility operations including receiving, sorting, consolidating, and preparing waste materials for shipment.
- Work independently in remote locations and collaborate with dispatch and operations staff to ensure customer service expectations are met.
- Occasional overnight travel throughout British Columbia may be required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Class 3 License with Air Brake Endorsement preferred (Class 1 considered an asset).
- Physically capable of lifting up to 60 lbs and performing repetitive manual labour throughout the day.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Experience handling drums, totes, hazardous waste, used oil, antifreeze, filters, or industrial waste materials is considered an asset.
- Strong safety mindset and ability to follow company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Forklift, TDG, and First Aid certifications are considered assets.
TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
- Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided to the successful candidate.
- Previous hazardous waste or environmental industry experience is considered an asset but is not required for the right individual.
- The successful candidate will receive training in hazardous waste handling, TDG requirements, waste identification, customer service, equipment operation, company procedures, and regulatory compliance.
- We are looking for a motivated, safety-focused individual with a strong work ethic who is willing to learn and develop a long-term career in the environmental services industry.
- Candidates must possess a valid Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement (or equivalent experience and licensing as required).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Experience operating manual transmission (stick shift) commercial vehicles is required.
- Candidates must be confident and proficient driving manual transmission trucks in urban, highway, and industrial site environments.
- Class 3 License with Air Brake Endorsement required. Class 1 License is considered an asset.
- Comprehensive training will be provided; however, candidates must possess the fundamental driving skills and experience necessary to safely operate commercial vehicles.
