Position Summary
Aburi Market Ambleside is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Butcher Assistant with a minimum of 1 year of experience to support our meat and seafood program! This role is ideal for someone with foundational butchery skills, including basic cuts and retail packaging, who takes pride in product quality, cleanliness, and presentation. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and is eager to grow within a premium food retail concept.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform basic butchery tasks, including trimming, portioning, and preparing standard cuts of meat and seafood
- Accurately weigh, label, and package products for retail display according to company standards
- Maintain visually appealing and well-stocked retail displays
- Ensure all products meet quality, freshness, and food safety standards
- Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and storage procedures (including HACCP principles)
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the butcher station, tools, and equipment
- Assist with receiving, inspecting, and storing deliveries
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages or quality concerns to management
- Support customer service by answering basic product questions when needed
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen and retail teams to ensure smooth daily operations
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a butcher shop, grocery meat department, or similar environment
- Basic knowledge of meat cuts, trimming, and portioning techniques
- Experience with retail packaging, labeling, and product presentation
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work in a refrigerated environment and stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Team-oriented with strong communication skills and a positive attitude
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
