Maintenance Technician
Executive Hotels Whistler | Whistler, BC
Join Our Team
Executive Hotels Whistler is looking for a hands-on, dependable Maintenance Technician to join our team supporting our two hotel properties in the heart of Whistler Village.
This is a practical and varied role for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, fixing problems and taking pride in keeping a hotel operating safely and efficiently. No two days are exactly the same — you may be completing preventative maintenance in a guestroom, troubleshooting a plumbing or HVAC issue, responding to a guest request, inspecting building equipment or assisting with a larger property project.
We are continuing to invest in our properties, systems and operating standards, and we are looking for someone who wants to be part of that progress.
The right person will bring a strong work ethic, practical maintenance ability and a genuine sense of ownership. Just as importantly, you understand that in a hotel environment, how we complete the work matters. Our Maintenance team works directly around our guests and alongside Guest Services, Housekeeping and hotel leadership every day.
The Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for completing day-to-day repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections and assigned projects across the hotel's guestrooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces and building systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete routine, preventative and corrective maintenance throughout both hotel properties.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guestrooms and hotel departments.
- Troubleshoot and complete general repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fixtures, equipment, furniture and building finishes within your training and competency.
- Complete scheduled preventative maintenance and guestroom maintenance programs to hotel standards.
- Inspect guestrooms, public areas, mechanical spaces and exterior areas to identify maintenance needs before they become larger problems.
- Accurately document completed work, outstanding repairs and required follow-up.
- Communicate unresolved issues, equipment concerns and potential risks to the Maintenance Manager.
- Work closely with Guest Services and Housekeeping to prioritize guestrooms and operational needs.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with guests when completing repairs in occupied rooms or public areas.
- Minimize disruption to guests by considering the timing, location and impact of maintenance work.
- Assist with larger maintenance projects, renovations and contractor work as required.
- Assist with maintaining repair and service records for hotel equipment and building systems.
- Monitor supplies, parts and materials and advise the Maintenance Manager when replenishment is required.
- Maintain tools, equipment, workshops and mechanical areas in a clean, organized and safe condition.
- Complete regular property and common-area inspections.
- Identify and report safety hazards, property damage and equipment deficiencies.
- Follow all hotel health and safety procedures, manufacturer requirements and applicable WorkSafeBC standards.
- Support emergency maintenance situations when required.
- Take ownership of assigned work through to completion and communicate clearly when additional support or follow-up is needed.
- Support other operational priorities and property projects as reasonably required.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in hotel maintenance, building maintenance, facilities, construction, a skilled trade or a similar hands-on role is preferred.
- General working knowledge of building systems and repairs, including plumbing, electrical and HVAC, is an asset.
- Strong troubleshooting and practical problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable using hand and power tools safely.
- Able to prioritize multiple maintenance requests in a busy operational environment.
- Reliable, organized and able to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of completed work.
- Comfortable documenting work and using basic computer or mobile-based systems.
- Professional and courteous when interacting with hotel guests.
- Able to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors and other departments.
- Willing to ask for assistance or escalate work when a repair is outside your training, competency or authority.
- Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays, based on operational requirements.
- English communication skills sufficient to safely perform the duties of the position and communicate effectively with guests and team members.
Trade certification is an asset but is not required. We value broad practical ability, good judgment, reliability and a willingness to learn.
