We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Secondary School team. St. Francis School provides a faith-based, Roman Catholic education within the public school system of Yukon Education. Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwächän Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse, Yukon. SFACS is a 8-12 school of approximately 460 students, serving a diverse cultural population. Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence and model life-long learning. The uniqueness of each child is celebrated. This 0.857 FTE temporary position is a teaching position for Physical and Health Education, and Religion.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
-
Bachelor of Education or equivalent; focus on physical education
-
Experience providing physical literacy programming;
-
Recent experience teaching Physical Education at the secondary level;
-
Experience teaching in a faith-based school;
-
Experience working with students who are English Language Learners (ELL) and students new to Canada is an asset.

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

Experience teaching or providing culturally and developmentally responsive approaches for positive behaviour;

Ability to ensure religious education activities and instruction are consistent with Catholic teaching and traditions;

Experience with transition planning and supporting students with exceptional needs.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, consultants, and community agencies;

Willingness and ability to participate in the total school program including religious education and social justice initiatives;

An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the faith life of the school community;

Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population.
