Metal Structure Concepts is seeking an experienced Pre-Engineered Steel Building Designer/Estimator to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated professional who enjoys working on a diverse range of commercial, industrial, and agricultural building projects while contributing to a collaborative and innovative team.
While this is a remote position, preference will be given to candidates residing in British Columbia or Alberta to support collaboration within our primary operating regions.
Important: This position requires direct experience with Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings (PEMB). Candidates whose experience is limited to conventional structural steel design without PEMB experience will not be considered.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, estimating, and preparing proposals for pre-engineered steel building projects. We are looking for an individual with strong technical expertise, industry knowledge, and hands-on experience using PEMB design software to develop efficient, cost-effective building solutions.
This role offers the flexibility of remote work while providing the opportunity to collaborate with project managers, engineers, suppliers, and clients across Canada.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop pre-engineered steel buildings using MBS (Metal Building Software), American Buildings/Nucor eQuote, or other manufacturer-specific PEMB software (please list all software you are proficient at).
- Prepare accurate building layouts, design models, construction drawings, and technical documentation.
- Develop detailed project estimates, including material take-offs, labour considerations, and budget projections.
- Prepare professional proposals and quotations for prospective clients.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, project managers, and suppliers to ensure project requirements are met.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes, standards, and client specifications.
- Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle and revise designs as required.
- Maintain organized project documentation, design files, and estimating records.
- Assist with bid reviews, vendor coordination, and contract negotiations as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Required
- minimum 7+ years of direct experience in Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) design and estimating.
- Proficiency with MBS, American Buildings/Nucor eQuote, Revit, AutoCAD, and/or other manufacturer-specific PEMB software platforms.
- Strong understanding of pre-engineered building systems, building codes, and structural design principles.
- Proven experience preparing accurate, competitive project estimates and proposals.
- Strong technical drafting and 2D/3D modeling capabilities.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Must be fluent and proficient in English, both spoken and written.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing multiple concurrent projects.
Preferred
- Degree or diploma in Structural Engineering, Architectural Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Experience working directly with PEMB manufacturers and suppliers.
- Additional experience in construction estimating, project management, or sales support.
- Familiarity with commercial, heavy industrial, and industrial agriculture building projects.

Additional Information
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and currently reside in Canada. Preference will be given to candidates located in British Columbia or Alberta. Occasional travel may be required.
