About the Role
The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for supporting day-to-day HR operations and providing timely, professional support to employees and leaders across Cavalier Tool & Manufacturing. This role supports payroll, benefits administration, uniform orders, WSIB submissions, recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, conflict resolution, employee records, and general HR compliance while helping maintain a positive, people-focused workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and coordinate payroll accurately and on schedule, including employee hours, changes, deductions, updates, and related verification. This position is backup to the payroll specialist.
- Administer employee benefit programs, including enrollments, changes, terminations, employee inquiries, and coordination with benefit providers.
- Coordinate uniform orders, track employee eligibility and requests, maintain accurate records.
- Prepare, submit, and follow up on WSIB documentation, claims, reporting, and related correspondence.
- Support conflict resolution by listening to employee concerns, documenting issues, facilitating respectful communication, and escalating matters when appropriate.
- Support full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, resume screening, interviews, reference checks, offers, and candidate communication.
- Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes, including orientation, paperwork, system and access requests, exit documentation, and employee file updates.
- Maintain accurate employee records, HR documentation, reports, forms, and HRIS/payroll information while ensuring confidentiality.
- Support attendance, performance management, policy administration, training coordination, employee relations, and compliance-related HR activities.
- Assist with HR projects, employee engagement initiatives, and continuous improvement activities that support Cavalier's PEOPLE - PROCESS - EQUIPMENT commitment.
- Participate as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), supporting workplace health and safety initiatives, attending meetings, assisting with inspections, and helping ensure compliance with company policies and applicable legislation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist role.
- Experience supporting payroll, benefits administration, recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
- Working knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and HR compliance requirements, including ESA, AODA, WSIB, and related workplace legislation.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, confidentiality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while providing excellent employee service.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience using HRIS, payroll, or timekeeping systems is an asset.
Preferred Assets
- Experience with ADP
- Previous HR experience in a manufacturing, tooling, automotive, or industrial environment.
- Experience with WSIB claims administration, return-to-work processes, and workplace accommodation support.
- Familiarity with health and safety programs, training records, and workplace committee support.
