Our head office in Kingsville, ON is currently seeking a Data Analytics Engineer to join our team! As a Data Analytics Engineer, you sit at the front of the chain — turning ambiguous business needs into clear, well-scoped requirements and tasks for Data Engineering and the report development team. Much of the work starts before a single pipeline or report gets built, analyzing and reverse-engineering current business processes and existing IT/reporting solutions to understand how things work today, then scoping how they should be modeled and delivered in the One Data Platform (ODP). Business often doesn’t know exactly what it needs, so this role calls for a self-starter who is genuinely curious, comfortable with ambiguity, and skilled at building relationships that unlock the real requirements.
Values:
To perform the job successfully, the incumbent’s behavior must be consistent with the PRIDE values expected of all Mastronardi Produce employees: be Passionate; have Respect; be Innovative; be Driven and strive for Excellence.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Requirements Discovery & Scoping — Partner with business stakeholders to uncover true requirements — even when the business itself isn’t sure what it needs — and translate them into clear, actionable requirements and tasks for Data Engineering and BI teams.
- Reverse-engineering existing solutions — Analyze and reverse-engineer current business processes and existing IT/reporting solutions (legacy reports, spreadsheets, ERP systems) to understand current-state logic before scoping the ODP solution.
- Data Analysis & Manipulation — Perform hands-on data analysis and manipulation to validate assumptions, generate correct results, and determine how data should be modeled into or out of ODP.
- Solution Scoping & Handoff — Define the scope and shape of solutions to be built in ODP, and hand off clear, well-defined requirements to Data Engineers and BI/report developers.
- Relationship-driven Problem Solving — Build and maintain strong relationships across the business, IT, and the EDM team — the primary source of context and answers when requirements are unclear or undocumented.
- Proactive Issue Detection — Proactively identify data and solution issues before the business surfaces them, through ongoing data validation and review.
- Troubleshooting & Resolution — Troubleshoot and resolve data issues, partnering with Data Engineering when root causes sit upstream in pipelines or source systems.
- Solution Adoption — Partner with the business throughout build and rollout to ensure the delivered solution meets or exceeds requirements and is fully adopted.
- Cross-functional Collaboration — Interact heavily with technical and non-technical business stakeholders, power users, other IT teams, and the EDM team throughout the analysis-to-delivery lifecycle.
Education/Background Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
- SQL & Data Analysis: Very strong SQL and data analysis skills, including the data manipulation needed to generate correct results and inform how data should be modeled into or out of ODP.
- Communication & Relationship-Building: Excellent communication skills and demonstrated success building relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders — this role gets most of its answers through people, not documentation.
- Self-starter & Curiosity: A self-starter mindset with strong intellectual curiosity, comfortable operating with ambiguity and driving clarity when the business itself doesn’t know what it wants.
- Requirements & Reverse-engineering: Experience gathering requirements from business stakeholders and reverse-engineering existing reports, spreadsheets, or systems to understand current-state logic.
- Troubleshooting: Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify, scope, and help resolve data issues — often before the business notices them.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Data Modeling: Experience with data modeling, including dimensional (star schema) design.
- Power BI: Experience building Power BI semantic models and reports, useful for prototyping or validating a proposed solution.
- Platform/DE Exposure: Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or a similar modern data platform.
- AI-assisted Analysis: Experience using AI assistants and LLM-based tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate analysis work — writing and reviewing SQL, profiling and reverse-engineering data and existing solutions, and drafting requirements and documentation — while retaining full ownership of the correctness and quality of the results.
Working Conditions:
- Typical office environment.
