About the role
The Friends of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (FCMHR) is the non-profit organization that attracts and sustains all forms of philanthropic contributions for the Museum from a broad range of supporters across Canada and around the world.
Reporting to the Director, Development and Partnerships, the Events and Donor Relations Manager is responsible for the design, planning, management, and execution of fundraising, relationship-building and donor stewardship for multiple key fundraising and cultivation events in alignment with the FCMHR’s fundraising strategy. Additionally, this position will be a touchpoint for different levels of donors, supporting donor stewardship across the organization, including responsibility for supporting mid-level giving through benefit fulfillment, donor recognition, and relationship development.
The incumbent will ensure seamless coordination, effective problem-solving, and maximize fundraising success by keeping the teams organized to ensure that events run smoothly and are highly impactful for donors. They will be a strong and thoughtful communicator, highly organized, critical thinker and innovator, and will bring a collaborative approach to their role.
What you’ll do

Contribute to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion and innovation, and models anti-racist and accountable behaviours.
Lead FMCHR-specific events, including the Museum’s annual fundraising gala, breakfasts, mixers, donor/VIP receptions and mixers by:
Planning, implementing, and overseeing the events. Is the key point of contact during the events.
Working in partnership with the FCMHR team to strategize and develop the revenue strategy.
Managing sponsor acquisition, recognition, stewardship, and fulfilment.
Coordinating logistics with the CMHR Events team and other partners as appropriate, overseeing production timeline, run of show, and post-event stewardship.
Working with Mailchimp and CMHR design teams for the design and development of event materials
Be responsible for donor stewardship and cultivation as they relate to fundraising and stewardship events.
Support the stewardship of mid-level donors through the Changemakers program and other initiatives, tracking and fulfilling program benefits, supporting recognition opportunities, and identifying ways to deepen engagement and strengthen long-term relationships with donors.
Identify and leverage opportunities to elevate relationships and giving amongst event attendees, donors and prospects.
Work in collaboration with the FCMHR team to plan tailored moves for prospects through the donor lifecycle (moves management).
Prepare briefing notes and reports in relation to the events and activities within the portfolio.
Conduct donor meetings and represent the FCMHR at cultivation events.
Participate in campaign meetings and make recommendations to the FCMHR on fundraising strategies.

What we’re looking for

Minimum of 3 years of event fundraising and planning experience, working in the non-profit sector and preference for education at the certificate or diploma level (in tourism or hospitality). An equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated experience working with high-level donors and in customer relations.
Commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion and dignity for all.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and a preference for using Mailchimp, InDesign, or equivalent design software.
Ability to steward donors and sponsors in a timely, respectful manner.
Proven experience in customer service with a high level of professionalism.
Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and prioritize.
Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership role and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with visitors, staff, contractors, clients, volunteers and members of the public.
Strong and clear communication skills, both oral and written.
Flexibility and Adaptability: ability to work effectively in ambiguous or changing situations, and with diverse individuals and groups.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
