Project Coordinator
Annual compensation range $60,000 – $80,000 based on experience and a 40–50-hour work week range with overtime over 8 hours per day, overtime on Saturdays and double time on Sundays. All employee benefits are paid by the employer, including annual bonus, employer RRSP, Health benefits, Life Insurance, Disability, Vision and Dental coverage. No fees are taken off employee’s earnings as all are paid by the employer.

We are seeking a Project Coordinator to join our team. The Project Coordinator is a support role for managing M. D. Steele’s construction sites. In general, they ensure documentation on the project is being completed accurately and on schedule, while also coordinating key aspects of the project to optimize site work.
Personal Attributes
- Dedicated to completing construction projects safely, to high quality, on schedule through to completion
- Able to read, comprehend, and perform detailed analysis of construction drawings, manufacturer instructions, and construction specifications
- Has a knowledge of the construction industry and processes, with preference to concrete and/or steel works, temporary works, roadworks, and/or building construction
- Capable of creative problem-solving to assist with the development of complex work methods
- Capable of clear and concise communication
- Has extensive experience with Microsoft Office suite and PDF’s (examples include Adobe and Bluebeam) and has the capacity to adapt to new software and technology
- Able to develop professional relationships with internal and external colleagues through trust building and professionalism
- Has an attitude of curiosity and personal continuous improvement
- Able and willing to work on construction projects out of town when required
Primary Role & Responsibilities
- Follows M. D. Steele Safety Policy and encourages all site personnel to work in a safe and respectful work environment, including participation in development of Safe Work Practices/Procedures
- Reviews and becomes familiar with project drawings, specifications, appendices, and subcontractor scopes
- Participates in project coordination meetings with the project team
- Schedules field activities of subcontractors in conjunction with Superintendent
- Assists in the development of schedule/cost optimizations and quality improvement opportunities with the project team
- Assists with the generation of RFI’s, NCR’s, and MDS technical submissions
- Manages project submittals and documentation, including review of Subcontractor submittals before submitting to Contract Administrator/Client
- Regularly updates project schedule with assistance from Superintendent and Project Manager
- Assists Project Manager with quantity tracking
- Conducts routine site visits for progress tracking and spot checks for quality assurance
- Participates in developing conceptual work methods including acquiring feedback from Superintendent, Foreman, and Subcontractors
- Assists with commissioning and turnover packages
- Participates in project post-mortem reviews for consideration on future estimates and projects
Other roles and responsibilities may be assigned to the Project Coordinator infrequently for short-term durations and only as appropriate to the situation and to their experience. Examples may include certain Project Manager or Superintendent duties during vacations.
Prerequisites
- Holds an Architectural Technology Diploma, Construction Engineering Technology Diploma, or an equivalent level of education
- Has at least both of the following qualifications:
A minimum of 18 months of experience in the following construction markets in a coordinator or management capacity: institutional construction, industrial construction, mining, roadworks, transportation infrastructure construction
A minimum of 2 professional references in the construction industry that can elaborate on the above personal attributes and ability to complete the below roles and responsibilities
