Accounting Manager - Manitoba
Position Overview
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, inventory accounting, and operational finance activities within a manufacturing and construction environment. This role provides leadership across accounting processes while acting as a key business partner to operations, supply chain, and leadership teams.
The Accounting Manager will lead inventory and cost accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and process improvement initiatives, while ensuring strong internal controls and data integrity. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
Inventory Accounting & Controls
- Oversee the full inventory and cost accounting function for manufacturing and wholesale operations
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of inventory valuation, including COGS, WIP, and standard/actual costing
- Lead and oversee physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, including variance analysis and resolution
- Partner with operations, warehouse, and supply chain to investigate discrepancies and improve controls
- Establish and maintain inventory control frameworks, policies, and procedures
- Ensure accurate costing methodologies, inventory valuation, and reconciliation of discrepancies
Financial Reporting & Performance Management
- Manage all financial aspects of assigned projects, including project set up, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and project close out.
- Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
- Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Deliver variance analysis (actual vs. budget/forecast) with clear commentary and business insights
- Build and enhance management reporting packages and dashboards for leadership
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and audit requirements
Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes for inventory, manufacturing, and operational cost centres
- Partner with operations to develop production forecasts, cost projections, and inventory planning assumptions
- Monitor financial performance against plan and recommend corrective actions
- Support scenario analysis and financial modeling to guide decision-making
Systems, Process Improvement & Controls
- Oversee and enhance inventory and costing modules within ERP systems
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Strengthen and maintain internal controls related to inventory, costing, and financial reporting
- Lead process documentation, SOP development, and standardization efforts
- Partner with IT and cross-functional teams on system enhancements and integrations
Audit & Compliance
- Support and coordinate internal and external audit processes
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, tax, and audit requirements
- Maintain strong documentation and audit trails for inventory and financial transactions
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA designation (or actively pursuing) strongly preferred
- 5–8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- Strong experience in manufacturing, inventory-heavy, or project-based industries
- Proven experience with inventory accounting, costing, and financial analysis
- Prior experience in project management, project accounting, or project controls considered an asset.
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory modules
- Advanced Excel skills (XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, PivotTables, data modeling)
- Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory control, and financial reporting
- Experience building reports, dashboards, and financial models
- Systems-oriented with the ability to optimize ERP functionality
Working Conditions
- Hybrid role with required in-office presence in Argyle, MB (minimum twice per week)
- Periodic travel within Canada for inventory counts, site visits, and operational support
- Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment aligned to financial reporting cycle
