Our passionate team of Direct Support Professionals is committed to advancing inclusion for people who live with developmental disabilities in Norfolk-Haldimand, Ontario. Under the direction of the Manager of Supports and Service, the Supervisor is responsible for performing specific tasks relating to the direct support of people and direct support professionals. It is important for the Supervisor to be connected to the community and believe in its importance in people's lives. The Supervisor is also responsible for additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Supports and Service.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
Supervision of Direct Support Professionals
- Ensure that the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Agency are understood, reflected in work activities, and applied consistently in practice.
- Provide guidance, coaching, informal training, or instruction to staff. Responsible for supervisory orientation of new staff as to their specific responsibilities, routines, and other pertinent information.
- Prepare and alter the schedule of work shifts on a regular basis, assist with call-in shift replacement when needed during regular working hours
- Ensure that a pool of staff is trained and available to work on a casual or relief basis with any individual being supported. Assist with hiring of staff.
- Carries a cell phone to respond to on-call staff scheduling for all support locations on an alternating schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Provide direct supervision and support to each employee. Conduct annual performance reviews and make recommendations for staff improvement.
- Ensure that employees and students adhere to the policies and procedures of the Agency. Recommend and follow through on disciplinary action when warranted.
- Promotes teamwork and cohesiveness amongst staff and circle of support. Ensures that staff and students are aware of their responsibilities and are made accountable.
- Be aware of all non-routine situations and actions are taken. Responsible for assisting the team with problem-solving and decision-making.
- Responsible to ensure documentation is complete. Responsible and ensures lines of communication are open and being used.
- Monitor and manage (approve) staff entitlements to vacation, sick, personal time, and other time off.
Leadership
- Promotes and demonstrates the purpose and mission of CL Access within the workplace and community at large;
- Demonstrates a positive and professional relationship with the support team, families, volunteers, other providers, and the community at large
- Serves as a role model to others by demonstrating a respectful and positive attitude toward individuals with disabilities;
Individual Supports
- Maintain confidentiality of all information pertaining to individuals supported.
- Oversee the development and implementation of individual support plans and monitor the outcomes.
- Ensure proper supports are in place to assist individuals supported to make informed choices, and ensure regular follow-up.
- Provide staff with support so they are familiar with resources and community facilities available in the areas where people are living and that they seek out, develop and implement community-based activities and experiences with each individual where potential connection and relationships can be fostered
- Promote individuals' involvement with their family and/or friends. Liaises between family and other supports for individuals being supported (family counseling).
- Act as a resource to individuals being supported, family/friends, staff, professionals, etc.
- Ensures financial accountability systems are maintained as necessary to assist individuals in their homes
- Monitors activities of the people supported through regular or ad hoc discussion, review of correspondence, documents, reports, direct observation, feedback from staff, people supported, families, and others.
- Carries a cell phone to respond to on-call emergencies for all support locations on an alternating schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Program Operations
- Recommend Human Resources and Safety practices to adhere to policies and procedures. Ensure compliance by staff and self.
- Verify and forward payroll, staff travel requests, invoices, receipts, and other statements of accounts payable or receivable to the Director of Finance.
- Represent the Agency on committees or in task force activities, as required.
- Provide backup to other supervisors during absences.
- Investigate accidents, complete forms and incident reports
- Attend Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings on a rotational basis.
- Attend and become train-the-trainers for various interests (committees, medication training, relationship training, NVCI, CQL reliable interviewer…)
- Ensures the work site is clean, tidy, and generally maintained in good reasonable order, and is in adherence with Health and Safety policies, procedures, and recommendations from the Health and Safety Committee.
General
- Participate in personal upgrading as it relates to the position and job requirements on a continuous basis to remain currently informed (e.g. management courses, courses related to the delivery of services to persons supported)
- Acts as a resource for committees and attends Board of Directors meetings as requested
- Participates in meetings as required (as participant, Chair, Resource…)
- Receives, reviews, files, and/or distributes internal/external correspondence, writes memos, letters, or reports, and keeps the Manager of Supports and Service informed of issues or concerns specific to support for people as required.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to individuals supported and organizational activities
- Be aware of the organizational mission and priorities and how they relate to this position
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Meet company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in compliance with Agency policies, procedures, legislation, regulation, and directions, and identify non-compliance for resolution.
- Participate and comply with all health and safety processes and initiatives to ensure the agency remains a safe workplace.

Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in Developmental Services/Social Services/Human Services or other related disciplines
- 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory capacity, preferably in a unionized workplace. Experience working with persons with disabilities.
- Certification in WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
- Computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of legislation, principles, methods, and practices of planning, developing, and administering related to personal support and supervision of staff.

- Ability to perform in a pressure environment, with frequent interruptions and short deadlines.
- The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and the ability to deliver presentations is essential
- Ability to delegate effectively.
- Knowledge of financial accounting systems
- Visibility requires maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive image.
- Must possess a valid Ontario Class “G” Drivers License.
- Must have a reliable means of transportation
- Frequent travel required.
- The job requires the performance of duties resulting in physical fatigue caused by occasional periods of moderate physical activity.
