Full job description

YACRO is a not-for-profit organization that is committed to empowering and supporting children and adults with a disability to achieve meaningful lives in their communities.

YACRO is currently seeking Community Residential Workers in Yarmouth. Permanent full-time, part-time, and casual positions are available.

Responsibilities and Duties

The job is to support individuals with disabilities in all aspects of their daily living which include but are not limited to:

Providing support to individuals to attend medical appointments, social events, etc.
Assisting with cooking, cleaning, laundry and all other household duties.
Assisting with personal care as needed
Providing guidance and support through behavioral challenges
Support Individuals with maintaining relationships with family members and friends and developing new relationships.
Completing daily documentation
Administer medications according to procedure.

Qualifications and Skills

High school graduate. Post secondary preferred.

Provincial Core Competencies:

Fire and Life Safety
Individual Program Planning,
Standard First Aid/CPR,
Positive Principles and Practices of Non-Aversive Behavior Change,
Crisis Invention,
Medication Awareness,
Basic Principles and Practices of Personal Care

(*YACRO will provide training for individuals who do not possess these competencies at the time of hiring.)

Previous experience working with individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities.
Willingness to work various shifts, including nights and weekends
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Personal qualities of emotional maturity, empathy and compassion
Possess a strong desire to have a positive effect on people with disabilities, and a commitment to supporting and promoting their individual needs, skills, abilities and personal goals.

Successful applicants must provide a current criminal record check and child abuse registry check or be willing to obtain these upon hire.
