Job description:

Parkland Regional Library is hiring a casual Library Clerk for the Yorkton Public Library. This position will have hours as needed and will be considered on-call. Applicants must be available on Saturdays and weekday evenings. The candidate will be trained on-site and will be a member of the CUPE 1904 Bargaining Unit.

The Library Clerk position, under the supervision of the Yorkton Branch Manager, is responsible for all aspects of local branch operations and services with a focus on public library services. This position has a high degree of autonomy and independence within a directed framework. Internal relationships include working productively with all staff of Parkland Regional Library. External relationships include members of the public and community groups.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Performs all aspects of library circulation, including check-in and check-out of library materials, creation and maintenance of library accounts, placing and retrieving holds for library materials.
Collects patron fees and charges, provides receipts, and appropriately secures collected funds as directed.
Provides public library services including reference, reader advisory, subject, and local information services.
Provides reception and reference services in-person, by telephone, and by e-mail to patrons and other library branches.
Assists patrons in the use of library equipment, applications, and software.
Processes holds and interlibrary loans as required.
Processes newly acquired and interlibrary loans materials as directed.
Provides assistance with library programs as directed.
Greet patrons entering library and offer assistance to all patrons within the library.
Supervises the use of library facilities, including enforcement of all library rules and regulations.
Performs reshelving and shelf reading of collection.
Responsible for performing opening and closing procedures.
Maintains the safety of library facilities for staff and members of the public.
Provides library services in a non-judgmental and approachable manner.
Maintains an orderly and tidy library facility, which does not include cleaning services except for minor incidents.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or currently working towards completion of high school.
Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, e-mail platforms, and internet searching.
Ability to apply critical analysis to situations and procedures.
Ability to solve complex problems within job responsibility.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Strong customer service skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to lift 35 pounds / 15.87 kg.
Criminal records check including vulnerable sector check required.

Additional Qualifications:

Knowledge of library procedures and routines.
Lifelong learner. Able to learn other roles and progress in the organization.

Pay: $19.88 per hour
