Our team
The Government of Yukon's Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services branch (MWSUS) provides a suite of counselling, psychiatric, mental health and substance use services for all Yukoners. The MWSUS is known for its innovative, holistic, trauma informed and culturally accessible approach to providing mental health and substance use supports to all Yukoners.
The Child, Youth and Family Therapeutics Team is a team that operates within MWSU and aims to provide a range of individual, group and family counselling and support services to school-aged children, youth and families in the Yukon. The Child, Youth and Family Therapeutics Team partners with community agencies, education systems, medical and psychiatric health care as well as First Nations Government partners to provide individual and team based mental health care for Yukon youth and families.
Your role
Reporting to the Manager, Mental Wellness Substance Use (MWSU) – Counselling Services, the Clinical Supervisor, Child-Youth-Family Therapeutics Team (CYFTT), is responsible for the direct clinical supervision, and program supervision for a multidisciplinary team. The team includes clinical counsellors, registered nurses, child and youth engagement workers, and support staff.
This term Clinical Supervisor position offers the opportunity to play a meaningful leadership role in shaping how young people and families experience support. The ideal candidate will be able to navigate providing both clinical and program supervision to the team, in an evolving therapeutic landscape in the Territory. Part of the role will be to provide direct clinical supervision, supporting the growth of counselling and care providing staff, and to ensure a high quality of clinical services. In addition, the role will also be to build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, work with partner agencies in program design to meet client and community needs. The role will also be able to help manage a team through changing approaches to delivering services, with a strong change management approach.
The position provides oversite for programs, including therapeutic groups, the family systems pathway, individual counselling and the youth outreach clinic. This position will ensure alignment with program objectives, professional standards, and organizational priorities. Other key responsibilities will include staffing coordination, scheduling, workload distribution, and leading effective team functioning and service flow. The role also supports file audits, and quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives. This position will work closely with a team of supervisors and managers within the MWSU leadership group, internal program areas, and territorial stakeholders.

Essential qualifications

- Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or other clinical mental health related disciplines; relevant clinical PhDs may also be considered;
- Current or eligibility for registration with a relevant Canadian accredited professional body;
- Significant experience providing clinical supervision, consultation, and leadership to a multidisciplinary team delivering therapeutic services, preferably with a focus on children, youth, and families;
- Experience with human resource management and administrative functions in a health care or social services setting (e.g., performance management, disability accommodation, labour relations, workload management, recruitment, policy implementation, etc.);
- Experience leading program development, implementation, evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives in a health care or community services setting;
- Experience building and sustaining relationships with First Nations Government Partners, non-governments and other community partners to promote a collaborative approach to service delivery in a community context.

- Effective written and oral communication skill complimented with strong conflict resolution skills
- Experience working with an electronic medical record system
- Experience with evidence-based and data-driven decision making, especially in regard to providing clinical direction on caseload management
- Ability to provide clinical consultation and support to the team
- Ability to build, foster and manage collaborative and cooperative working relationships with colleagues, staff and people we serve.
- Ability to support the public service to improve health care delivery through staff engagement, relationship building, community engagement, quality assurance and reconciliation.

Conditions of employment
You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.
- Verification of post-secondary Masters degree in either Social Work, Counselling, and Psychology or other related disciplines;
- Current registration with a relevant Canadian accredited professional body;
- RCMP Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector;
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent);
- TB Screening;
- WHMIS 2015 (within 1 month of hire).
Job requirements
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- Regular exposure to clients of all ages and families experiencing complex trauma, mental health challenges, substance use, and dysfunctional or abusive family dynamics;
- Work frequently involves crisis response and interaction with distressed, emotionally dysregulated, suicidal, or hostile individuals, with potential exposure to verbal and/or physical aggression and high-conflict situations involving clients, families, and partner agencies;
- Workplace stresses arise from supervising clinicians who may also be experiencing issues of life crisis (i.e. serious illness, suicide, death, violence, relationship breakdowns, etc.) or be impacted by vicarious trauma or the acute danger client’s may be at risk of;
- The position may be required to work afterhours working in collaboration with NGO’s and community led initiatives;
- The position is office-based, with the primary workspace being at the CYFTT office. Will require meetings with professionals in other offices so travel may be necessary. There are long periods of time at a computer terminal;
- Position requires incumbent to be able to lift 50 lbs and work in active environment. Will be exposed to wilderness elements and may work outdoors.
