Position Summary
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, budgets, and pricing for projects, tenders, or services. This role analyzes drawings, specifications, labor requirements, materials, equipment, and timelines to support bidding, project planning, and financial decision‑making. Accuracy, attention to detail, and collaboration with operations and project teams are essential.
Responsibilities & Duties
Cost Estimating & Analysis
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for projects, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead
- Review drawings, specifications, scope documents, and tender requirements
- Perform quantity take‑offs and cost breakdowns
- Analyze historical data to support pricing and forecasting
- Identify risks, assumptions, and exclusions within estimates
Bidding & Tender Support
- Support preparation of bids, proposals, and pricing submissions
- Coordinate with procurement, operations, engineering, and finance teams during tender preparation
- Ensure estimates align with contractual requirements and business margins
- Assist with bid clarifications and revisions as required
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, operations, and field teams
- Participate in project handovers and pre‑construction reviews
- Provide cost input during project planning and execution phases
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain organized estimate files and supporting documentation
- Prepare summary reports, cost comparisons, and pricing breakdowns
- Update estimating databases, templates, and cost libraries
Process Improvement & Controls
- Follow estimating standards, procedures, and approval processes
- Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to cost control
Qualifications & Experience
- Post‑secondary education in construction management, engineering, business, or related field preferred
- 2+ years of estimating or project cost experience (scope dependent on organization)
- Experience in construction, industrial, mining, or project‑based environments an asset
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
Pay: $25.00-$28.00 per hour
