Job Summary and Requirements

This is a until –filled competition. Candidates are encouraged not to delay submitting their application as this posting can close at any time after 10 business days with 24-hours posted notice. Resumes will be screened at regular intervals until the position is filled or the competition closes, whichever is earliest.

This competition is to fill one permanent part-time position working a rotation of 5 weeks on and 5 weeks off. This position includes a fly-in/fly-out arrangement, which includes transportation between the work location and the successful candidate's Canadian home province.

This job is based in the community of Old Crow in the beautiful Yukon.

About us

Community Nursing Branch is committed to excellence in the provision of Primary and Community Health Care throughout Yukon communities and firmly believes in a client-focused service delivery. This work occurs in a very dynamic and evolving environment that constantly strives to improve health services to rural Yukon. Community Nursing is committed to supporting our staff by providing a detailed initial orientation to the role and responsibilities and to the expanded scope of practice knowledge and skills requirements. This is followed by on-going seminars, skills education, workshops, and educational support.

Your role

Working in an expanded scope of practice, you will assist individuals and families to achieve and maintain optimal health through the provision of primary care and emergency treatment services, health education/promotion activities, and disease prevention. This work occurs in a very dynamic and evolving environment that constantly strives to improve health services to the community. Reporting to the Primary Health Care Nurse-in-Charge, the incumbent provides both community health and primary health care services through an expanded nursing role. Duties include providing primary health services, emergency services, assisting with the planning, developing, implementation and evaluation of public health/education programs and performing other related duties which contribute to the optimal functioning of the unit. Primary Health Care Nurses provide primary health care services in settings where there is limited access to physician and support services such as lab, x-ray and pharmacy. They must work effectively with both registered nurses and other health and social services practitioners in the provision of primary health care to the community.

Essential Qualifications:

Current RN registration with a Canadian registered nursing regulatory authority
Recent substantial experience working in an emergency department
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
Certification or education in the expanded nursing role is considered an asset

Strong knowledge in treatment services in an emergency role
Knowledge in Community Health Programs
Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, organization, and flexibility
Ability to lead, instruct and counsel
