Responsibilities:
● Collate and organize technical building information
● Assist in the development of architectural design, contract, bidding, and statutory approval documents
● Prepare applications for approval by regulatory bodies
● Prepare designs using CAD (computer-assisted design) and traditional drawing methods
○ Conceptual design work using software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.)
● Prepare specifications, cost estimates and listing of quantities of material from conceptual drawings and instructions
● Reference provincial and national building codes for building design and architectural drawings & specifications
● Construct architectural and display models, and 3D virtual models of architectural designs
● Investigating and offering technical advice on factors that affect building developments, including user needs, site and building surveys, and regulatory requirements
● Monitoring designs for health and safety and contributing to risk assessments
● Coordinate with sub-consultants (architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, sprinkler and other specialties)
● Make site visits
○ Complete onsite inspections to ensure compliance with respect to design, regulations, and codes
○ Confirm existing dimensions onsite
○ Inspect work performed by others onsite
● Attend meetings with potential and existing clients. Provide updates on drawing progress and offer expertise during discussions
● Participate in trade meetings as design liaison
● Review and approve sub-consultant invoices
● Review and track shop drawings received from construction division
● Coordinate internal and external requests for detailed design information
● Prepare and circulate tracking logs (shop drawings, site instruction, addenda)
● Generate and maintain consultant contact lists
● Coordinate with municipalities and regulatory boards as required
● Collaborate and knowledge-share with fellow drafting team members
● Research new design processes, building legislations, and technology
Qualifications:
● Completion of a two to three-year post-secondary program in architectural technology or a related subject
● Certification in architectural technology or in a related field through provincial associations of architectural or engineering/applied science technologists and technicians
● 2-5 years related experience in the construction field
● 2+ years using AutoCAD, Revit, and/or similar construction design software.
● Microsoft Office (or equivalent) experience.
● Vehicle (for travelling to site inspections)
