Position Overview
We are seeking a highly technical Maintenance Manager with the skillset, analytical mindset, and background of an Engineer to oversee our plastics container manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for leading maintenance, toolroom, and process teams, driving machine reliability, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering on safety, quality, and asset uptime targets. The ideal candidate brings hands-on manufacturing leadership experience, a deep understanding of plastics processing technologies, and strong engineering acumen to optimize complex machinery, automation, and tooling.

Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Plant Operations
- Oversee day-to-day facility maintenance, electrical, and mechanical operations across injection molding operations.
- Drive asset reliability, predictive maintenance, and preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Utilize technical engineering knowledge to troubleshoot complex machinery, auxiliary systems, and automation equipment.
- Monitor OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) in partnership with production, focusing on technical cycle times and mechanical throughput.
- Work closely with the Toolroom Manager on complex engineering fixes, mold modifications, and structural tooling issues.
- Manage spare parts inventory, maintenance procurement, and contractor relationships.
Safety & Environmental
- Enforce OSHA regulations, National Building/Electrical Codes, and plant safety policies.
- Lead incident investigations, root-cause failure analyses (RCFA), and implement engineering/technical corrective actions.
- Oversee compliance with environmental regulations related to plant infrastructure, energy efficiency, emissions, and recycling systems.
- Conduct regular equipment safety audits and facilitate technical safety training programs.
People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of technical leads, millwrights, electricians, and process technicians.
- Manage maintenance staffing levels, shift scheduling, and emergency on-call rotations to support multi-shift production demands.
- Conduct performance reviews, address disciplinary matters, and foster a culture of continuous technical learning and engagement.
Engineering & Continuous Improvement
- Identify and drive Lean/Six Sigma initiatives to reduce mechanical waste, improve yield, and lower per-unit manufacturing costs.
- Track and report on maintenance KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance); present weekly and monthly asset performance summaries to leadership.
- Develop and manage the departmental maintenance and capital expenditure (CapEx) budgets; monitor maintenance labor and material costs.
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of manufacturing maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
- Direct, hands-on experience with plastics processing machinery: blow molding, injection molding, extrusion, or thermoforming.
- Strong technical background in equipment reliability, mechanical/electrical systems, and facilities infrastructure.
- Proven track record managing maintenance KPIs including safety, PM compliance, machine availability, and repair costs.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety locking systems (LOTO), and ISO quality systems.
- Proficiency with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems), ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Plastics Engineering) or equivalent technical engineering knowledge is considered a strong asset.
- Professional engineer designation or formal technical certifications (e.g., Millwright, Electrician, or Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional - CMRP).
- Experience with food-grade or non-food-grade container manufacturing.
- Familiarity with SPC (Statistical Process Control) and FMEA methodologies.
- Experience managing union and/or multi-shift environments.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $110,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
