What will you do?
The Communicative Disorders Assistant provides therapy assistance and administrative support to Speech Language Pathologist employees
Primary Responsibilities:

Implements treatment plans with patients under the direction of registered Speech Language Pathologists (SLP).

Assists SLPs with patient assessments and treatment programs, in accordance with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASPLO).

Researches clinical tools/aids/materials to assist the registered therapists in delivering patient services.

Maintains related equipment and supplies on a regular basis by inspecting, cleaning, and sanitizing equipment used by patients and schedules equipment calibration/repairs.

Assists with setting up therapeutic tools/devices/assistive equipment for intervention, as required by SLPs.

Maintains organization of storage areas for therapy equipment and supplies to ensure that items are easily accessible.

Monitors inventory levels, and orders equipment and supplies as necessary.

Maintains digital tool updates, iPad updates and online inventory tracking systems.

Creates and maintains patient files in accordance with ONTARIO HEALTH ATHOME Champlain policies and procedures and CASPLO guidelines.
What must you have?

Completion of an accredited Communicative Disorders Assistant program from a recognized post-secondary institution
-
Related rehabilitation and/or community care experience normally attained over a period of two years.

Experience in Stroke and/or Neuro rehabilitation will be considered an asset

We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. As a condition of employment, all employees are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination status prior to start date.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of equipment, modalities, materials, and intervention processes used in the provision of speech language pathology services

Familiar with rehabilitation principles and clinical terminology used in interventions

Knowledge of applicable CASPLO professional guidelines
Skills and Abilities:

Excellent communications skills (verbal and written) are required to effectively exchange information with a variety of internal and external contacts and to complete required documentation

Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse patient groups with varying levels of comprehension and language capability

Ability to deal with demanding interpersonal situations and respond with good judgment and understanding

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a discreet and professional manner

Ability to effectively exchange information with a variety of internal and external contacts

Tact and diplomacy when dealing with complaints from patients, their family members/caregivers, knowing when to consult with higher authority

A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is require

Fluency in English and French is required.

Hours of Work
Monday to Friday – 8:30am to 4:30pm (35hrs/week)

Wages are in accordance with the collective agreement between Ontario Health atHome, Champlain and OPSEU and starting salaries range from $32.059/hr. - $36.080/hr.
