As we evolve, we currently seek a Business Development Director who can lead us into the future with a combination of strategic vision and hands-on customer execution.
This is an onsite role from our head office location in Surrey.
Role Overview:
The Business Development Director will play a central role in shaping and executing our sales strategy, overseeing our sales team by liaising with our inside sales supervisor, and driving our company to new heights. The ideal candidate will blend technical expertise, strategic sales insight, and a customer-centric approach, all while demonstrating exceptional emotional intelligence and leadership. You will be responsible for not only meeting ambitious revenue targets but also fostering a resilient, adaptable, and high-performing sales culture that aligns with our growth objectives.
In this role you will expand our B2B team, increase our value to existing customers, and drive new client acquisitions, all while ensuring your team thrives in a dynamic, ever-evolving environment. With a focus on 2025 and beyond, your leadership will be crucial as we position ourselves for significant growth through both organic and acquisition-driven strategies.
What We Look For:
You will be successful in this role if you have experience leading sales teams in large organizations, mechanical engineering or construction industry expertise, and a background in managing complex sales to multi-level organizations, along with a proven track record of setting and executing strategic sales plans.
You will also have the uncanny ability to see where the opportunities lie when you are analyzing large complex data sets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Sales Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy that aligns with the company’s goals, focusing on customer satisfaction, revenue growth, and long-term client relationships.
- Team Development and Management: working closely with the sales supervisor and technical lead you will lead, mentor, and expand the sales team, including Customer Service, Inside Sales, Technical Sales, Email Sales, and Outside Sales. Foster a resilient, learning-oriented, and high-performance environment.
- Customer-Centric Focus: Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, ensuring their needs are understood and met with innovative solutions.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize marketing and sales data, including LTV, ROAS, PPC, and CAC, to inform strategies and decisions in collaboration with Marketing.
- Lead Generation and Conversion: Evolve and execute a lead generation strategy, aiming to double the conversion rates from quotes to sales through established methodologies and creative approaches.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure comprehensive product knowledge, technical understanding, and optimal market positioning.
- Change Management: Champion a dynamic, evolving environment where processes are continuously improved. Prepare the team for growth while maintaining a startup mentality.
- ERP Optimization: Leverage our ERP system (NetSuite) for process optimization, ensuring the sales process is efficient and scalable.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven experience in sales leadership, ideally within an e-commerce, construction, or engineering-related field, with at least 5-15 years in a sales role.
- Technical Expertise: Strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to understand and interpret project and product drawings. A mechanical engineering degree is preferred.
- Emotional Intelligence: High emotional intelligence with the ability to self-regulate, resolve conflicts, and lead a diverse team through change.
- Sales Acumen: Demonstrated ability to design and execute strategic sales plans, manage a full sales cycle, and convert leads into long-term customers.
- Data Proficiency: Proficient in using data analysis tools and marketing technologies to drive decisions. Advanced Excel and Powerpoint skills are a must, with the ability to demonstrate through an assessment. ERP/NetSuite experience is required.
- Communication: Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with impeccable accuracy and attention to detail. Experience in delivering challenging information with tact is crucial.
