Convergint is looking for a full-time, team-oriented, results-driven, BAS Field Technical Lead, to join our amazing culture at our Toronto location. This role is responsible for installing, programming, system start-up/check-out, certification, and customer training on BAS projects of various sizes and complexities. It ensures the successful delivery of projects within budget and time constraints while serving as a key interface for technical support, maximizing customer satisfaction. Additionally, the role includes mentoring and coaching less-experienced staff.

What you’ll do with “Our Training and Your Experience”
For assigned Small to Medium size projects, will work as the lead, completing the following tasks:

Manages, oversees and coordinates aspects for small to medium projects of moderate complexity from award through completion of project, including: overall site management of project(s) for successful and timely completion within budget.

Review of all scope of work, terms and conditions in customer contracts including cost control, delivery fulfillment, and quality of service and other customer requirements as they arise and supports and advises the Supervisor/PMO on key aspects such as subcontractor selection, material selection etc.

Proactively communicates project requirements to project team and wider organization as and when required and maintains accurate and up to date records of job status, job changes, material flow and other control records necessary for processing of internal and external reports.

Identifies potential project risks, communicates to appropriate parties and assist in the development and implementation of strategies to minimize impact and to control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.

Coordinates the procurement of installations materials, supplies, services and controls necessary for timely and cost-effective completion of project within budget.

Authenticate the goods received and works with the Project coordinator /PMO to record and manage shipments that have any discrepancies in the order and address any issues

Ensure all project documentation is up to date and uploaded on respective job folders and Itrac
For assigned Medium to Larger size project, will work alongside Supervisor and Project Manager, completing the following tasks:

Translates a variety of customer needs / requirements and works with Supervisor/PMO to create detailed proposals and project plans to meet Customer requirements; provision of technical assistance to sales force as and when required; project design engineering; supervision of installation labor and subcontractors; preparation of project schedules, subcontracts, change proposals, project invoices; assists with collections on projects.

Leads communication with client and stakeholders with email turnaround time not more that 24hrs. Copy Supervisor/PMO in all communications and advise on any delay in response and assign deadlines as required for open commitments.

Executes all the technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets including, preparation of project documentation such as commissioning reports, as-built drawings, programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and on-going technical support, etc.

Advises Supervisor/PMO to establish project milestones; Analyze costs and find opportunities for cost reduction and value engineering throughout the project lifecycle. Attend estimate reviews as and when required; identify reasons for low job site productivity and determine impact on the project;
On all projects, will complete the following tasks:

Installs, programs, test, repairs, and services a substantial variety of security systems and equipment. Colleague is key interface for the provision of technical support and training for the customer and as such is accountable for maximizing customer satisfaction. Assignments are broad in nature and may require a high level of ingenuity and proficiency.

Reads blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation requirements; Interprets manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using advanced test instruments and hand tools.

Operates systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance and identify malfunctions. Writes non-routine programs of substantial variety and complexity for systems.

Consults with supervisor and/or engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
-
Advises supervisor regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards. Prepares documents and official records for dissemination to wider audience. Provides suggestions for product and service improvements to supervisor.

Assist Supervisor during monthly project reviews with Project cost admins and advise deviation to project plan and/or project cost estimates as necessary to meet financial goals.

Provides diagnostic and troubleshooting support to existing customers, sales team and service department as necessary for possible problems including electrical and installation problems. Be available for on call rotations and after hours work as required

Makes recommendations regarding quality of work and identifies ways to continuously improve customer satisfaction.

Using technical knowledge, skills and experience, mentors and trains less experienced staff. May supervise workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.

Communicates with and works with the other team members consistently to improve overall operations of the Convergint Technology Center, and company.

What You’ll Need:

Manage the scope, schedule, and quality of Building Management System (BMS) vendor work, especially during construction, to ensure compliance with scope of work (SOW), submittals, and specifications.

Develop and define scopes of work for site improvement projects, ensuring alignment with design requirements.
-
Review control sequences of operation, interpret control drawings and wiring diagrams, and provide design feedback for improved functionality.
-
Conduct comprehensive reviews of BMS submittals and coordinate with project leaders in regular meetings, providing updates to Controls Management.
-
Manage tight project timelines, balancing multiple stakeholder requirements and navigating complex situations to ensure successful outcomes.
-
Modify and interpret controls logic programming and graphical user interfaces as required for optimal performance.
-
Perform commissioning activities and assist with on-call schedules to provide timely BMS technical support.
-
Exceptional customer focus with the ability to work under pressure, consistently aiming to meet customer needs without prompting.

Strong technical skills, with experience adapting and developing procedures to meet complex job requirements.

Proven troubleshooting skills, and a proactive, self-directed work style.

Analytical skills to solve problems and identify solutions, along with intermediate mechanical and electrical aptitude for handling tools, reading blueprints, and basic math.

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, and proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Valid driver’s license, with frequent job site visits required; minimal overnight travel.
Requirements:
Basic Requirements:
-
Diploma in Mechanical/Electronics/Electrical/Electromechanical/Building Automation is strongly preferred.
-
5 years of relevant trade experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or other related engineering degrees; or engineering diploma.
-
Experience with building/industrial controls in critical environment (data center, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, oil & gas, petrochemical, laboratory, power, water etc.).
-
Experience designing, configuring, programming, installing, troubleshooting or servicing BMS applications specific controllers, software’s and networks.
-
Knowledge of electrical and/or mechanical systems.
-
Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams and standard operating procedures.
-
8 to 10 years of Relevant trade experience required (preferably in Controls domain).

2 years of experience in engineering project management, coordination with multiple teams or vendors to meet project requirements
