Job Description: Childcare Assistant (CCA)

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director, Family Room Supervisor, ECE level 2 classroom, and Program Manager you will be responsible for helping in the day-to-day functioning and oversight of the family classroom.

Responsibilities:

To be prompt for each shift and ready to work in a positive manner.
Sign in and out daily for accountability of attendance and tracking of time.
Must remain on site on your assigned shift.
Follow all rules, policies and regulations enforced by Makoon Transition Inc being a positive role model.
Maintain a professional relationship with all families and co-workers.
Do not contribute or start Lateral Violence.
Attend staff meetings, participate in family events and team building activities.
Maintain a professional relationship with all families and other collaterals internal and external of Makoon Transition Inc. not crossing any ethical boundaries.
Protect the integrity and work culture of Makoon Transition Inc.
Ensuring children’s needs are being met while in the Family classroom.
Ensuring the Family classroom is kept clean and sanitized at the end of each day.
Assisting in carrying out the Lesson planning, outings and activities to enhance learning skills of children with basics for school with Family Room Supervisor and ECE Level 2.
Able to lift, bend with children, change diapers and be willing to assist children with bathroom needs.
Learn and gain knowledge of special needs children diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum, ADHD, Dyslexia Disorder, OCD, Autism, and language speech impairments.
Focus on the children and being able to speak with care and understanding.
Respond to family’s questions or concerns with empathy and professionalism.
Creating a positive relationship and good communication with parents and co-workers.
Respond to all work emails in a timely manner with professionalism.
Practice health and safety always, recording any incidents or injuries that may occur in the Family classroom.
Be knowledgeable of any allergies when assisting in food preparation that is posted by Family Room Facilitators.
Be knowledgeable of First Nation people, our children and cultural awareness.
Ensure no unapproved visitors enter the premises.
Follow the chain of command and communications process internal and external of Makoon Transition Inc.
Communicate any concerns with your team and Program Manager.
When responding to emergency or crisis situations and/or contact 911, Director and Program Manager and Management.
Ensure no drugs, alcohol or illegal substances enter the building.
Log in to and update Family Room shift reports on the Makoon Transition Inc. Database.
MUST have your own transportation to and from work.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualification:

Grade 12 education required. Childcare Assistant Certificate and experience regarding daycare.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle.
CPR First Aid and de escalation training.
Food Handling Certificate and WHMIS Certificate.
Strong verbal, written and communication skills to articulate lesson plans to children in the Family Room.
Knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office with the ability to navigate shared drives.
Able to follow the missions and vision statements of Makoon Transition Inc. for the success of the families.
Strong organized and time management skills are a must to work with multiple families and high needs children.
Must provide criminal record, adult and child abuse registry checks.
Agree to random drug testing for illegal substance use and alcohol for work safety.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
