POSITION PURPOSE:
The Registered Dietitian is responsible for providing nutrition assessments and care planning for residents of the Glebe Centre. As a member of the Food Services team, the RD implements best practices to promote the health and well-being of Residents and upholds the Glebe Centre’s mission, vision, and values
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.Sc. in Nutrition
- Registered Dietitian in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
- Experience in healthcare, optimally Long-Term Care operations
- Well developed English language skills, comprehension, oral and written
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong leadership and interpersonal abilities

- A high degree of initiation and ability to work well with minimum supervision
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
- Knowledge and understanding of Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Standards and Guidelines
FUNCTIONS:
- Directs dietary care of residents with basic nutrition needs, including screening, assessment, and care planning, to ensure patient dietary needs and customer satisfaction levels are met.
- Promote optimal nutrition care for all residents of the Long-Term Care (LTC) home, ensuring services are in place to provide this care.
- Collaborates and communicates with culinary and clinical departments on established processes, nutrition care, special diets, and menu requests.
- Stays current with the most recent nutrition-related trends, research, policy, certifications, and standards of practice.
- Probes potential problems and apprises manager of status on resolution of problems or issues, using appropriate resources when necessary.
- Ensures compliance with all federal, provincial and local regulations as well as The Glebe Centre’s policies and procedures (e.g. HIPPA/Privacy Act, quality assurance, safety, operations, personnel)
- Establishes operating standards, implements quality improvements, and communicates them to other departments.
- Maintain a cooperative relationship among home area teams by communicating information, respond to referrals, building rapport, and participating in team meetings and problem-solving methods.
- Uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in The Glebe Centre’s ethical and Professional Codes of Conduct.
- Provide advice and communication to other health professionals regarding diet recommendations, swallowing assessments, and any other nutrition-related topics.
- Complete admission, quarterly, and annual assessment as per MOH & LTC standards according to the RAI MDS schedule
- Participate in resident care conferences.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nutritional care for all residents
- Plan and monitor therapeutic diets, dietary restrictions, and provision of nutritional supplements according to the assessed needs of residents
- Other job-related duties as required
