Job Description
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Security is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization's enterprise-wide security strategy for a commercial spaceport operation. This role ensures the protection of personnel, critical infrastructure, classified and sensitive information, operational technology, information technology systems, artificial intelligence platforms, and corporate assets.
The Director of Security serves as the subject matter expert for physical security, cybersecurity, risk management, security clearances, data governance, AI governance, regulatory compliance, and incident response. The position works closely with government agencies, regulatory authorities, launch customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to maintain a secure, resilient, and compliant operating environment.
What You’ll Do
1. Security Strategy & Governance
· Develop and execute the organization's enterprise security strategy aligned with business objectives and operational requirements.
· Establish security policies, standards, procedures, and governance frameworks.
· Lead the development of long-term security roadmaps and annual security plans.
· Advise executive leadership on emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies.
2. Enterprise Risk Management
· Develop and maintain the corporate security and risk management program.
· Conduct enterprise-wide security risk assessments and vulnerability analyses.
· Identify, evaluate, and mitigate operational, cyber, and physical risks.
3. Physical Security & Spaceport Operations
· Develop and manage physical security programs for launch facilities, mission control centers, test areas, data centers, and administrative offices.
· Oversee access control systems, surveillance systems, perimeter protection, visitor management, and emergency response procedures.
· Coordinate with federal, provincial, and municipal law enforcement and emergency management agencies when required.
4. Cybersecurity & Information Technology
· Provide strategic oversight for Information Technology and cybersecurity functions.
· Ensure the protection of networks, cloud environments, servers, endpoints, and operational technology systems.
· Oversee cybersecurity monitoring, incident response, and threat intelligence activities.
5. Artificial Intelligence Governance
· Assess AI-related risks including data privacy, bias, security vulnerabilities, intellectual property protection, and regulatory compliance.
· Implement AI governance frameworks, monitoring controls, and risk assessment procedures.
· Ensure responsible, ethical, and secure adoption of AI technologies across the organization.
6. Security Clearances & Personnel Security
· Develop and oversee personnel security programs, clearances, authorization, and threat prevention programs.
· Act as the primary liaison with government agencies regarding personnel screening and security requirements.
7. Data Protection & Information Management
· Develop and oversee enterprise data protection strategies.
· Ensure secure storage, retention, classification, transmission, and disposal of information.
· Oversee compliance with privacy legislation, contractual security requirements, and industry best practices.
8. Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
· Ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial laws, security regulations, contractual obligations, and aerospace industry requirements.
· Maintain security certifications, audits, and compliance programs.
· Serve as the organization's lead representative on security-related regulatory matters.
9. Leadership & Team Development
· Lead multidisciplinary teams responsible for security, cybersecurity, IT, investigations, and risk management.
· Foster a culture of security awareness and continuous improvement.
· Manage relationships with external security consultants, service providers, and technology vendors.
What You’ll Bring
· Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
· Proven ability to manage secure environments with controlled access.
· Minimum 5 years in a senior management role with responsibility for enterprise security programs.
· Ability to obtain or maintain a Canadian Security Clearance.
· Ability to work in a dynamic, fast growing organization where priorities may evolve quickly.
- Experience in aerospace, defence, aviation, marine, or space industry.
- Experience supporting critical infrastructure or highly regulated environments.
- Experience leading both physical security and cybersecurity functions.
- Experience managing regulatory compliance and security clearance programs.
