The Ministry of Education, W. Ross Macdonald School in Brantford requires an experienced aquatic individual to participate in the growth and development of students who are Blind, low-vision and/or deaf-blind, through an aquatics program.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Plan, organize and implement instructional, recreational and training programs designed to meet the needs of students and lifeguarding staff.
Schedule staff to ensure safety.
Maintain records.
Organize competitive and recreational swimming programs and special community events.
Implement school policies and to ensure the maintenance of aquatics equipment.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

National Lifeguard Society of Canada Lifeguard Certificate.
Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
Courses in Non Violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent.

Skills and Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience working with students who are Blind/low vision and/or students who are deaf-blind.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate effective aquatic programs to meet the needs of students.
Knowledge of the Ontario Public Pools regulations and relevant legislation and Provincial and Demonstration Schools policies and procedures, guidelines and practices.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate with using hand-over-hand communication and other non-verbal methods of communication (or willingness to learn) to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals.
Good judgement and problem solving skills.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to assist with student transfers.
