Role Summary
Reporting to the Director of Construction Operations, the Shop Manager will be responsible for safely and effectively managing the shop. Based out of our New Haven Shop, this role will oversee our technicians, parts technician, and welders, ensuring they meet company standards.
What You’ll Do
- Manage day-to-day operations of the shop, including oversight of shop team.
- Foster a positive team environment and assist in the recruitment and evaluation of personnel.
- Assign and monitor technician repair and maintenance tasks.
- Assist technicians with estimating repair times required for each repair order and follow up to ensure assigned work is completed within repair time estimates.
- Assist Technicians with troubleshooting and diagnosing repairs when difficulties are encountered.
- Monitor the quality of work performed, ensuring repairs are done according to recommended procedures and/or OEM specification.
- Actively develop, implement, and maintain processes, procedures, and programs to improve safety, productivity, and cost savings for the site.
- Assure that all time and repair details are obtained and recorded on repair orders.
- Inspect completed service work and conduct road tests on equipment brought in for repairs.
- Oversee the maintenance of tools, equipment, and facilities as well as the safety, clean up and general housekeeping of the shop and yard.
- Actively communicate with heavy equipment suppliers and manufacturers.
- Coordinate service appointments for heavy equipment with external parties.
- Dispatch road technicians for on-site repairs.
- Ensure effective communication with Dispatch and Director of Construction Operations on any additional work required or delays encountered on work orders.
- Prepare for incoming work orders and parts requirements.
- Monitor parts purchasing, inventory and warranty coverages.
- Oversee disciplinary actions and performance goals in conjunction with upper management.
- Liaise with management and drivers in a professional and team-oriented manner.
- Adhere and support all safety requirements and quality standards set forth in the PEI Occupational Health and Safety General Regulations, PEI Occupational Health and Safety Act and Island Coastal’s Safety Management System.
- Use your experience to identify health and safety deficiencies, aid in developing solutions, and enforce safe working practices.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
- 5+ years shop management or related experience preferred.
- Heavy duty mechanic diploma or related post-secondary education considered an asset.
- Red Seal certification considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Self-motivated with the ability to foster a positive team environment.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to effectively supervise a team.
- Valid drivers license and own transportation.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $75,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
