Who You Are: You are a "people person" through and through. You’re the one who anticipates the needs of your team and stays patient and kind even when the weather isn't perfect. - A Natural Leader: You have experience actively leading large groups of kids ages 5-12 in a recreational setting professionally for a minimum of 900 hours. Ideally, you have also led other staff and volunteers as well.
- Safety-First: You’re a pro at managing groups near water (lakes and pools), and ensuring everyone's safety, wellness, and engagement.
- Community Builder: You thrive on building positive relationships with parents, kids, youth, staff, volunteers, and the community.
- Resourceful: You have a "toolbox" full of games and activities ready to go.
Prerequisites:
- Elementary School Teacher OR at least 900+ hours leading large groups of children professionally.
- Current Police Information Check & First Aid Certification.
- Teacher, Lifeguard, EA, or ECE certifications are a major asset!
- As this job is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs, staff need to be between 18-30 years old and Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, or Protected Persons.
What Your Days Will Look Like:
- Assist with Leading the Adventure: Collaboratively lead games and activities at beautiful spots like White Pine Beach and Coquitlam River.
- Navigate the Day: Supervise camp, ensure safety around water, and de-escalate challenges with a calm, respectful approach. Train and mentor staff and volunteers.
- Collaborate with the Camp Coordinator and Camp Director along with Admin, Camp Leaders, and Volunteers.
- The position will be outdoors, guiding camps. It is suited for someone with extensive experience and training who will act as a lead guide at one of our camps.
- This is a very active role that actively participates in all activities. There is no admin.
- Some of our Assistant Coordinators, if desired, may lead our smaller, newer camps.
Locations: Camp guides lead out-trips at our Tri-Cities West Camps (Blue Mountain Park, Poirier Pool, Spani Pool, Crash Crawly's, Westhill Park, Mackin Park, Rocky Point, and more), Tri-Cities North Camps (White Pine Beach, Rocky Point, the Coquitlam Aquatic Complex, Poirier Pool, Crash Crawly's (if rain is forecast), and more) or Tri-Cities East Camps (out-trips that we meet at include Lion's Park, Evergreen Park, Town Centre Park, Jungle Jac's, and more). A reliable car is recommended.
We’re also hiring for camps across Metro Vancouver, including New Westminster, Burnaby, Vancouver West Side, Maple Ridge, South Surrey, Richmond, Langley, and North Vancouver. Lifeguards and BIs are also needed.
