Our People and Culture team plays a critical role in enabling that transformation, supporting leaders, strengthening labour-management relationships, and ensuring our workforce is supported, engaged, and treated with fairness and respect.
We are hiring an HR Business Partner/Consultant to partner closely with leaders and teams across the organization and be a key member of our People & Culture team. This role is ideal for an experienced HR Business Partner with deep labour relations expertise, sound judgment, and the confidence to operate in high-stakes, people-centred environments.
If you are energized by complex employee and labour relations and advising leaders through difficult decisions while staying grounded in values, equity, and impact this role offers meaningful challenge and purpose.
Why this role stands out:
- Act as a trusted HR Business Partner to leaders in a complex, unionized organization through a trauma-informed lens.
- Lead complex labour and employee relations matters with autonomy and credibility.
- Influence how people practices, policies, and programs are shaped at an enterprise level.
- Operate in a system where decisions have real human impact on staff, children, youth, and families.
- Join an organization committed to collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence.
What Makes You Successful in This Role:
- Provide expert consultation across the full range of HR disciplines, with a strong focus on labour and employee relations.
- Interpret and apply collective agreements, employment legislation, and organizational policies.
- Lead the full grievance lifecycle, including union liaison, preparation, arbitration support, and collaboration with legal counsel.
- Coach and advise leaders on performance management, discipline, investigations, attendance, and conflict resolution.
- Conduct and support workplace investigations related to harassment, bullying, and employee concerns.
- Support organizational change and workforce planning initiatives.
- Lead or contribute to HR policy development, ensuring appropriate union consultation where required.
- Take ownership of one or more strategic HR program areas and provide thought leadership within the HR team.
Who this role is for:
You are a seasoned HR professional who is calm under pressure, principled in decision-making, and skilled at navigating complexity. You bring credibility with leaders and unions alike and understand that good labour relations are built on trust, consistency, and fairness.
You’ll likely bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field and Certificate or Diploma in human resources management.
- CHRP or CHRL Designation
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with strong labour relations depth in a unionized environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing grievances, investigations, and arbitration preparation
- Strong working knowledge of Ontario employment and labour legislation.
- Excellent judgment, communication skills, and the ability to deliver difficult messages thoughtfully.
- A commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful workplace practices.
- Experience in child welfare or the broader public sector is an asset but not required. What matters most is your ability to operate effectively in complex, regulated environments.
Hours of Work:
- Monday to Friday each week, primarily between office hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Working hours may vary, and applicants must be flexible to work outside of standard office hours.
- This position is required to be in person at a minimum of 2 days per week.
