Junior Accountant

Position summary:
The Junior Accountant supports the Finance Department by performing day-to-day accounting transactions, reconciliations, and financial analysis. This role provides exposure to full-cycle accounting in a healthcare environment, including general accounting, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and audit support.
The role is great for someone who wants to learn and contribute to the accounting and reporting functions of Runnymede Healthcare Centre.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare month-end journal entries, including funding allocations, prepaids, deferred capital contributions, payroll, revenues, and expenses
- Perform reconciliations of assigned General Ledger accounts
- Complete monthly and annual balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare financial analysis and reports using Excel
- Support capital projects accounting and cost tracking
- Perform Ministry of Health (MoH) program and funding reconciliations
- Provide ad hoc analysis, reporting, and general administrative support
- Assist with interim and year-end audit preparation, including gathering supporting documentation
- Provide AP coverage when required, including:
Processing invoices in Meditech
Executing payments via EFT and cheques
- Provide AR coverage when required, including:
Patient billing and payment processing in Meditech
Statement generation and account reconciliation
- Insurance claims submission
- Assist with collections from patients and insurance companies
- Support Patient Accounts front desk coverage as needed
- Provide bi-weekly payroll coverage when required
- Uphold organizational standards related to confidentiality, quality improvement, patient care, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance.
The successful candidates will posses the following qualifications/experience:
- Diploma or Degree in Business Administration/ Commerce/ Accounting from a recognized Canadian University/ College
- Enrollment in or pursuit of a professional accounting designation (example CPA) is considered an asset
- Work experience, either through co-op placement or work experience in an accounting environment.
- Microsoft Word/ Excel, Meditech, HRIS, GP.
- Knowledge of non-profit financial accounting principles and reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical, planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
