Executive Director: Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Halifax Particular Council

Since 1868, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul- Halifax Particular Council (HPC) has been serving those in need. Our 16 member conferences currently provide assistance to more than 11,000 persons, largely through home visits. The 310 volunteer members help others while maintaining a focus on, and commitment to, addressing the root causes of poverty.

We are seeking an individual to guide the Society through its next stage of development. The Executive Director will report to, and partner closely with the HPC. Responsibilities include a leadership role within the Society including the HPC and member conferences.

This is a compelling opportunity for a dedicated visionary leader to:

· Build on our established 156-year history of successfully helping people in need.

· Bring their outstanding proven leadership skills to dedicated, mission-driven, and service-focused staff and volunteers.

· Construct an efficient internal and external communication system.

· Increase brand awareness and visibility of the Society.

· Expand the Society’s fundraising activities.

Position Description:

The Executive Director shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation of the Halifax Particular Council (HPC) and be a member of the Executive. Duties include the following:

a) Attend meetings including, but not limited to the HPC and Executive.

b) Act as principal liaison between HPC, other organizations, and the community at large.

c) Work with the HPC Executive to establish a strategic vision, and the priorities, policies, goals and objectives, consistent with that vision.

d) Collaborate with the HPC President and Executive to operationalize the strategic plan.

e) Lead fundraising to support the Society’s projects and supervise donor fund allocation.

f) Direct current part-time and potential future staff.

g) Expand financing sources for the Society and nurture relations with donors and funders.

h) Develop best practices and policies to support the Society’s work, consistent with the values, vision, and Rule and Statutes of the Society.

i) Create strategies to improve the visibility and awareness of the Society through promotion and communication, using conventional media and online services, with an emphasis on social media.

j) Report on staff activities at monthly meetings and the AGM.

k) Responsibilities will evolve with time. (ODA)

Education:

- Post-secondary degree program, or equivalent professional experience.

- Masters, (preferably in Business Admin) or related is an advantage.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

- Highly organized and experienced leader. Skills in the not-for-profit sector is an asset.

- Proven ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

- Self starter with the ability to work independently.

- A 3-5 year minimum working experience successfully managing people and programs.

- Solid understanding of financing, strategic planning, and budget preparation.

- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate with volunteers, boards, committees.

- Able to interpret by-laws, current legislation, acts, and regulations. Experience in

governance is an asset.

- Strong public speaking skills.

- Excellent communication skills in English.

- Must demonstrate advanced digital literacy and ability to work with/administer

platforms and toolsets that facilitate online organizational work, particularly the

Microsoft Office suite and various social media platforms.

Work Description:

- Position: Full Time based in Halifax, NS (in office or at home)

- Hours of work: 37.5 hour per week with benefits

- Flexibility in work hours required since some meetings are in the evening or weekends.

Salary:

- Based upon experience, with expected range of $80- $90,000.
