JOB SUMMARY:
A Lead Hand, is an experienced worker in charge of a small group of employees to complete required tasks. The Lead Hand plays an intermediate role between field staff and foreman. The Lead Hand is responsible for the smooth and safe operation of their team, helping the workers to meet goals. They coordinate the team and are responsible for applying policies and procedures. Other duties may include arranging for extra workers, evaluating the quality of work of team members, organizing crew tasks, maintaining work standards, resolving issues between team members, and mentoring apprentices.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working 5-6 days a week, 8-10 hours a day. Depending on project requirements.
- Manual labour to support underground utility installation.
- Assist Foreman with workload, acting as leader in their absence from site
- Assist tradespersons such as electricians, cement finishers, boom truck operators in construction activities
- Ensure that daily operations are carried out in accordance to company objectives through the direct effective supervision of employees and subcontractors
- Assist heavy equipment operators to secure special attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities
- Maintain equipment in working order.
- Additional tasks and responsibilities relating to skill or trade that is being supervised required.
- Perform all work in accordance with applicable Task Hazard Assessments (THAs), safe work practices, and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs).
- Identify hazards and participate in hazard assessments and control implementation.
- Perform assigned tasks as identified in formal hazard assessments.
- Ensure hazard assessments are completed, reviewed, and followed by workers.
- Ensure identified hazard controls are implemented and maintained.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years’ experience in construction, with increasing responsibilities
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle required.
- Leadership in Safety Excellence considered an asset.
- First Aid Training considered an asset.
- Competency driving standard vehicles and towing trailers considered an asset.
- Must be able to lift 75lbs.
- Be able to stand, knee, crouch, bend and walk to perform work.
- Able to work outside in inclement weather conditions.
