Under the direction of the Director of Operations the Assistant Operations Superintendent will guide and monitor the Dispatch Department Dispatch Department in the allocation of resources to ensure safety & client satisfaction while contributing to the profitability of the business and ensuring the well-being of its employees.

To apply you must have ALL of the following minimum requirements:

▪ Post-secondary education in business administration, Human Resources, logistics/supply chain, plus at least 2-4 years’ experience in an environment related to, marine operations, employee relations, or planning.

▪ Or 4-7 years of progressive experience in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Dispatch, including Supervisory duties.

▪ 1-2 years of Labour Relations knowledge as it pertains to marine unions and Collective Agreements.

▪ Knowledge of standard industry practices, including dispatching, invoicing, contract negotiation, and broker arrangements.

▪ Knowledge of project management, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and contract management.

▪ Knowledge of the Canada Shipping Act and Associated Regulations.

▪ Excellent written and spoken English.

▪ High-level communication including active listening, reframing and mediation.

▪ Must be legally allowed to work in Canada.

▪ Must have a valid BC Driver's License.

Some of the Job functions for this role will be:

▪ Oversees the daily/weekly/monthly work schedules assigned by the Dispatch Supervisors & makes adjustments and suggestions as needed regarding activity volumes, sickness, and personal needs to contribute to personnel management related to the fulfillment of the strategic allocation of resources, company objectives, labour efficiency, productivity, and utilization.

▪ Monitors crew capacity, and availability and creates contingency plans to meet service needs and organizational requirements for schedules, training requests, and personnel/leave requests to ensure the improvement of operating standards while maintaining compliance with regulation, policy, and collective agreements.

▪ Provides subject matter expertise on-call for operations, dispatch, and labour relations to ensure the crew labour issues including callout pay issues are resolved in a timely and effective manner.

▪ Provides payroll support, including exception approvals and over time, while supervising the dispatchers to ensure consistent, standard procedures are followed for work offers, recording, and administrative functions to ensure appropriate payment, efficiency, and adherence to the collective agreement.

▪ Supervises the scheduling of SHEQ-related processes with the SHEQ Officer and Operations Superintendents to ensure best SHEQ practices are followed and intended targets are reached.

▪ Develops and actions fact-based decision making based on KPIs and other decision support tools using cost-effective measurements to to ensure operational feasibility, maximum commercial value, and optimal safety practices.

▪ Collaborates with HR and other managers to develop policy, process, practice, and assessment criteria to enhance crew and dispatch performance to ensure cultural alignment, service delivery, and timely planning of HR activities.

▪ Reacts to change productively to undertake other tasks and responsibilities as assigned and the best interest of the company. This list of functional duties is not exhaustive.

The estimated salary for this position is $95,000 - $110,000. To determine the salary offered, SAAM Towage considers the candidate’s skillset and experience, locationa and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package that includes benefits, allowances, incentives and bonuses.
