Who We Are
Read on Roads Inc. is a growing road construction and pavement preservation company based in the foothills of High River, AB. We hold contracts with counties and municipalities across Alberta spray patching potholes, laying asphalt, and sealing cracks to keep Alberta's roads serviceable and safe.
We run clean, well-maintained equipment. We look after the people on our crews. And we offer something most seasonal construction companies don't: a clear path from seasonal labourer to a salaried year-round position for people who earn it.
The Roles Choose Your Fit
We are hiring for three specialised road construction labourer roles this season. Apply for the one that best matches your experience or indicate interest in multiple roles and we will find the best fit.
Spray Patch Labourer
Operate spray patching trucks and equipment to repair potholes and pavement failures on Alberta roads and highways.
Asphalt Paving Labourer
Work alongside paving crews raking, luting, and finishing hot mix asphalt on road and parking lot projects to spec.
Crack Sealing Labourer
Operate hot-pour kettle equipment to seal cracks in asphalt surfaces, extending pavement life across county and highway contracts.
Important : Travel Across Alberta Is Required
These roles involve working across Alberta on county and provincial road contracts. You will be away from home for portions of the season, staying in hotels that Read on Roads arranges and pays for. Daily subsistence is also covered. If that works for your life, the pay, the overtime, and the team make it well worth it.
What All Roles Involve
- Work as part of a coordinated crew from project mobilisation through to completion you are accountable for your piece of the work from the first day to the last.
- Operate specialised equipment relevant to your role: spray patch trucks, asphalt rakes and lutes, or hot-pour crack sealing kettles and application wands.
- Maintain safe work zones on active roadways flagging traffic, setting up signage and cones to MUTCD and Alberta standards, and staying alert throughout every shift.
- Perform quality control as you work inspecting your own outputs and flagging any material or application issues to the crew lead before they become defects.
- Care for your equipment : pre- and post-shift inspections, cleaning, and reporting any mechanical issues so the next crew starts with gear that is ready to go.
- Work in all conditions : heat, rain, and wind. Alberta weather does not pause projects and neither do we. Composure and reliability through long days in variable conditions is essential.
What We Offer
- $20–$30/hr based on experience and role reflecting specialised field work, not general labour rates
- Overtime pay on all qualifying hours long project days mean real OT earnings throughout the season
- Bi-weekly pay reliable, on schedule, every two weeks
- Hotel accommodations and daily subsistence covered by Read on Roads when working away from home
