If this sounds like the place where you would like to grow your career, we are currently seeking a Senior Civil Engineering Technologist to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Civil Engineering, you will work in collaboration with the Development team and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the development program related to frontage and offsite infrastructure improvements and design during the project lifecycle from land acquisition through to construction completion. Working closely with the external consultants including civil consultants through the full construction process. Preference will be given to candidates residing in Victoria.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the project concept and design process with regards to engineering requirements for frontage and offsite works, in consultation with the other departments, the project manager and engineering consultants;
- Leads the Servicing Agreement negotiations, interprets subdivision and development bylaws and provides advice to other departments, the project manager and engineering consultants;
- Reviews and approves frontage and offsite budgets;
- Reviews, recommends, and awards contractual awards for off-site Civil works;
- Recommends cost sharing, if applicable, and leads negotiations between parties such as Local Governments, various agencies, and other levels of government;
- Reviews project concept and design for frontage and offsite infrastructure projects such as roads, water, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, sidewalks, and curb gutters;
- Liaise with City Staff and Council to facilitate projects moving through the project lifecycle;
- Responsible for the review of the detailed construction drawings for adherence to engineering standards and conducts on-site inspections of major construction projects to ensure conformance to Local Government standards and sound engineering principles in coordination with the consulting engineer;
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or similar) supported with 8+ years experience in similar role
- Strong experience working in Civil Engineering/Consulting environment, Civil design, Land development or Municipal Government;
- Possess a strong understanding of the relevant standards and subdivision servicing bylaws, development cost charge (DCC) bylaws, the municipal approval processes, servicing agreements and other development related agreements;
- An understanding of concrete, steel and wood-frame construction is an asset;
- Possess strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook;
- Attention to detail with the ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy;
- Strong work ethic with the ability to be effective in a fast-paced environment with changing project demands;
- Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills and ability to balance multiple perspectives;
- Ability to think creatively when problem solving, proactively adapting to challenges;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to liaise with a variety of stakeholders;
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships and to work well in a team environment;
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and a results-driven approach.
