Position Description

R ecognizing the critical role that diversity of identity, background and perspective play in harnessing creativity and innovation, McMaster University’s Faculty of Engineering invites applications for a women in engineering tenure-track position in the Department of Chemical Engineering to begin July 1, 2027 or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Successful Candidate

We seek talented and dynamic women in chemical engineering who will contribute to the department’s excellence in research, teaching, and service. We will consider candidates in all areas relevant to the faculty’s strategic plan of engineering a brighter future . Candidates working in interdisciplinary, crosscutting research areas that address global grand challenges are desirable. Specific research topics of interest include but are not limited to resource recovery techniques; membrane design; catalysis; energy conversion; circular economies; and process intensification.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in Chemical Engineering or related areas, and must demonstrate an impactful record of research, reflected by publications in relevant high-quality peer-reviewed journals and external grant acquisition (for established researchers). The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses. They will be expected to establish a strong externally funded research program, supervise graduate students, and foster collaborations within the Department, Faculty, University, and beyond.

Applicants should also possess outstanding leadership and communication skills, a commitment to excellence in service, and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Any evidence demonstrating communication and service excellence in the areas of teaching, research, or service is encouraged but not required. All candidates will be expected to participate in the normal administrative, educational, and professional activities of the Department, Faculty and University. Applicants are expected to have licenses for the practice of engineering in Canada or the ability and eligibility to apply for an engineering license with the Professional Engineers of Ontario within 3 years.

Pay Transparency Statement

The starting salary will not be less than $94,167, and will be determined based on rank, discipline, experience, and qualifications. Salaries for faculty members progress through a Career Progress/Merit Plan; average salaries by rank and Faculty for previous academic years can be found here .
