About Vincent Massey Academy
Vincent Massey Academy ("VMA") is dedicated to nurturing curious, compassionate, and confident learners. Since 1985, VMA has been serving families in the Etobicoke community by providing high-quality, holistic education in environments designed to foster inquiry, creativity, and meaningful connections.
Our Day School program offers a personalized educational experience for students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Through small class sizes and a Reggio-inspired, inquiry-based approach, our teachers are able to build strong relationships with each student and tailor instruction to their individual strengths and interests.
The Role
We are seeking a French Teacher on a fixed-term contract on an independent contractor basis for the 2026–27 school year. This is a 10-month contract with the possibility of a contract extension. The French Teacher will teach in our classrooms two days per week, each Tuesday and Thursday of the school year. The classrooms for the school year range from Kindergarten to Grade 6, with a maximum of 13 students in a Kindergarten classroom and 15 students in a Primary class. 30 minutes of prep time are provided for every hour of instructional time, for a total of 12 hours and 10 minutes weekly.
This role focuses on delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate French programming to students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 6. The successful candidate will design meaningful language-learning experiences that support communication skills, cultural exploration, and student confidence while contributing to VMA’s inquiry-based, student-centered learning environment.
The ideal candidate is a creative, flexible, and collaborative educator who is passionate about language learning. They are confident in teaching French at the Primary and Junior levels and committed to fostering a joyful and inclusive learning environment. This role is well-suited for an educator who enjoys bringing language learning to life through interactive experiences, cultural exploration, storytelling, music, movement, and hands-on activities.
The successful candidate will operate as an independent contractor and will be responsible for managing their own statutory deductions and related obligations
What You'll Do

Conduct each lesson in a detailed and structured manner, with individual student growth and understanding as the main goal

Collaborate with VMA's Curriculum Director to align lesson plans, learning objectives, and goals for the French language program

Approach each instructional day with a student growth mindset

Differentiate instruction and assessment practices to meet the needs of individual students

Provide student progress updates and reporting as required by the program

Support the social-emotional development of students

Collaborate with teaching faculty and Leadership to support student learning and program continuity

Contribute meaningfully to the positive school culture at VMA

Ensure that all actions and communications positively represent VMA and its mission, vision, and values

What You'll Need

Bachelor's Degree, or higher, from an accredited institution

Proficiency in the French language, oral and written

Registration with the Ontario College of Teachers with Good Standing and Primary/Junior teaching qualifications is considered a strong asset

French as a Second Language AQ or Specialist is considered a strong asset

1-2 years of experience teaching French to students at the Primary-Junior levels

Familiarity with the French AIM Language Learning program is considered a strong asset

Strong classroom management practices and engaging instructional strategies for French language learners

Proficient interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all students, families, and faculty members

Demonstrated professional behaviour, including discretion, judgment, and integrity

Comfortable integrating educational technology into classroom instruction (SeeSaw, French AIM, SMART Board, Google applications, and Microsoft Suite)
