Position Overview
Waiward Construction Management Inc. is seeking an experienced Topman to support our water and sewer construction crews. The Topman is responsible for assisting with field layout, shooting elevations, and supporting excavation and pipe installation crews to ensure municipal infrastructure is installed accurately and efficiently.
This role requires a strong attention to detail, knowledge of elevations and survey measurements, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Use a transit or surveying equipment to shoot elevations and assist with grade control for water and sewer installations.
- Interpret and work with geodetic survey numbers and construction drawings to ensure accurate layout and installation.
- Assist with cutting and beveling pipe as required for installation.
- Work closely with the ditch crew to support excavation, pipe placement, and installation activities.
- Ensure pipe and infrastructure are installed according to grade specification and project plans.
- Communicate with supervisors, operators, and crew members to maintain efficient workflow.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with general site duties as required to support project completion.
Qualification and Skills
- Experience using transit or surveying equipment to shoot elevations.
- Ability to interpret geodetic numbers and survey information.
- Experience working with water and sewer pipe installations is considered an asset.
- Ability to cut and bevel pipe safely and accurately.
- Experience working with ditch crews or civil construction teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor construction environment.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in English.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Work Environment
- Outdoor civil construction environment.
- Physically demanding work includes lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions.
- May require extended hours depending on project schedules.
