Job Overview
We are seeking a creative and experienced Product Developer with direct experience in frozen yogurt, soft serve, or ice cream category. This role is essential to driving innovation across our family of brands including: Yogen Fruz®, Pinkberry®, Yogurty’s®, Yeh! Yogurt®, Sweet Jesus and Swensen’s®. You’ll lead product creation from concept to commercialization, blending creativity with technical expertise. This role requires a strong palate, technical expertise in frozen desserts, strategic understanding of category market trends, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Innovation: Lead the development of new flavor and product categories, including but not limited to frozen yogurt base, ice cream base, CPG products, baked goods, snacks, and beverages. Innovate and experiment with new flavors, textures, and ingredients.
- Recipe Development: Create and refine recipes to achieve desired taste, texture, and visual appeal. Ensure that formulations are scalable and feasible for commercial production and market rollout.
- Market Insights: Collaborate with marketing to understand market trends and consumer preferences. Use this information to guide product development and innovation strategies.
- Quality and Compliance: Oversee product testing and quality assurance processes. Ensure all new products comply with food safety regulations, nutritional parameters, and meet our company’s taste and quality standards.
- Sensory Analysis: Conduct sensory evaluations to assess new and existing products.
- Supplier Coordination: Work with suppliers in collaboration with supply chain team to source and evaluate ingredients and packaging materials to ensure viability and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including marketing, supply chain, and operations to ensure successful product launches.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of product development processes, including ingredient specifications, formulation changes, and testing results. Prepare reports and presentations for internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Degree in Food Science, Culinary Arts, or equivalent experience in frozen dessert product development
- 5–7+ years of hands-on experience developing and scaling frozen dessert products
- Strong sensory skills and a refined palate for flavor balancing and texture optimization
- Creative mindset with a passion for food innovation and consumer trends
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with CFIA/FDA/USDA food safety and compliance regulations
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional teams
- Hands-on experience with formulation, processing, and scale-up in a manufacturing environment preferred
