REGENT PARK COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE
We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and Downtown East area of Toronto. We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including: primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, health promotion, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, harm reduction and homeless programs, addiction and recovery services, Pathways to Education, infant and child development programs, parenting programs, and youth employment services.
We currently have three (3) openings:
Youth Engagement Peer Mentor
Full-time Contract Position - 35 hours per week, for 8 weeks
Hourly Rate: $20.00 per hour plus 4% vacation
Position Summary:
The Youth Engagement Peer Mentor will support the implementation of the Youth Engagement Project (YEP), a leadership and engagement program for youth aged 12 to 15 years living in the Regent Park and Moss Park communities. YEP aims to build civic engagement and digital citizenship knowledge and capacities among participants.
Through YEP’s activities, youth will enhance life and social skills, digital literacy, and online safety skills, build positive peer connections, access resources and support, and receive opportunities for meaningful participation in their community. The project will also include service learning, youth-developed and implemented projects, social and recreational outings, and one-on-one support. YEP, will create a safe and supportive space where youth can learn, share experiences, connect with their community, and grow as leaders.
Responsibilities and Tasks Include
- Active collaboration and participation in project development, planning, implementation, and evaluation with team members
- Assisting in the planning and facilitation of participant workshops, activities, and outings
- Assisting in delivering activities that support leadership, civic engagement, digital literacy, digital citizenship, and online safety
- Assisting in providing supervision and positive role modelling for youth participants and project volunteers on and off site
- Assisting in maintaining cooperative team interaction and collaborative decision-making processes
- Assisting in the preparation of project space and the maintenance of equipment and supplies
- Assisting in the preparation and maintenance of required files and records, including client and project statistics and work plans
- Attending and actively participating in staff training, team meetings, and project and team evaluations
- Assisting with the development and distribution of program promotional and outreach materials, both physical and digital
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of content for the project’s online and social media platforms
- Using online tools and platforms including social media such as Zoom, Google Hangouts, Facebook Live, Instagram, TikTok, Slack, and similar tools
- Supporting youth participation in group projects, community activities, outings, and service-learning opportunities
Setting a good example for participants by being supportive, conscientious, energetic, enthusiastic, and a strong team player

Qualifications and Skills Required
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Between 15 and 29 years of age at the start of employment
- Work or volunteer experience planning and facilitating activities for diverse youth in a community-based setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective engagement practices related to youth and an understanding of the issues they face
- Experience or training/education in youth development, recreation, arts and culture, or athletics
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within and across teams, as well as independently
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to think creatively and encourage and motivate other youth
- Good understanding of social media and common software, platforms, and apps
- Knowledge of digital literacy, online safety, and digital citizenship topics relevant to youth, including social media use, online privacy, cyberbullying awareness, media literacy, and responsible online engagement
- Living in or familiarity with the community, including Regent Park, Moss Park, St. James Town, or Rivertown, and community programs and services for youth
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends throughout the program period
- Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
- Commitment to equity, anti-oppression, and inclusive program delivery
- Ability to work effectively with people of various cultural, age, and economic backgrounds
- Knowledge of the Regent Park area and issues affecting families in the Regent and Moss Park communities
- Ability to speak other languages is an asset, including Bengali, Arabic, Amharic, Somali, or French
