Job Description: Specialized Support Worker

Job Summary:

At SBS Support Inc., founded and operated by experienced caregivers, we are committed to providing exceptional support to a diverse range of clients including children, teens, and young adults with varying needs. Our clients may have cognitive or developmental challenges, physical disabilities, mental health issues, and more. We are seeking compassionate Specialized Support Workers to join our team, where you will contribute to our culturally rich All-Nations approach and make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve.

Responsibilities:

· Provide personalized care and assistance to clients in private residences, supporting their daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.

· Administer medications and follow health care plans as prescribed by medical professionals.

· Offer companionship and emotional support, understanding the social and economic challenges our clients and their families face.

· Assist with meal preparation, maintaining dietary standards, and perform light housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe living environment.

· Engage clients with culturally appropriate programs and traditions, respecting their individual backgrounds.

· Ensure smooth day-to-day operations within the home, providing leadership and guidance to other support workers.

· Support families in accessing cultural activities and ceremonies if requested.

· Provide holistic mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual support to families.

· Establish trusting relationships with parents and their children.

· Complete administrative duties, including orientation for new staff, coordinating information distribution, scheduling meetings, and home maintenance.

· Participate in ongoing professional development to increase knowledge and skill levels.

· Promote positive teamwork and exhibit a high degree of positive role modeling for young people.

· Demonstrate a good understanding of the Child and Family Services system in Manitoba, particularly in the context of Indigenous communities and the impacts of inter-generational and historical trauma.

· Show willingness to advance in their career and take on roles such as House Manager.

Requirements:

· Experience in caregiving or home care, with a strong ability to empathize with and support diverse client needs.

· Proficiency in handling medication administration and following health protocols.

· Excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in providing support and care.

· Experience as a team lead/leadership position within a social service program within Manitoba.

· Proven ability to handle sensitive situations and confidential information in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

· Willingness to receive training in specialized care techniques relevant to our client group.

· Must pass a Child and Abuse Registry check and a Criminal Record Check.

· Post-secondary education in Human Services or a combination of education, work experience, and lived experience may be considered.

· Two years of progressive related experience working with families in a supportive manner.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software and the ability to operate in a networked environment.

· Effective problem-solving ability and strong communication skills.

· Experience working with vulnerable children and youth with an array of behavioral needs.

· Strong counseling skills and experience in Relational Care.

· Ability to reflect or seek guidance to ensure support given is representative of the organization’s mission and values.

· Knowledge of Strength-based philosophy and knowledge of Indigenous culture and language preferred.

· Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry Check with acceptable Prior Contact Check outcomes, and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check; all completed within the last 3 months.

· Manitoba 5F Driver's License with Vehicle.

· First Aid and CPR Certification.

· Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI).
