At first, the work environment seems positive and welcoming. However, the longer you stay, the more stressful it becomes—especially if you're a reliable employee. Those who consistently show up and do their jobs well often feel penalized when requesting time off. While management asks for requests to be submitted well in advance, they frequently take months to approve them, making it difficult to plan trips or attend non-refundable events.

When things become overwhelming and you seek support from management, it’s rare to get clear answers. In some cases, raising a concern can escalate a situation unnecessarily instead of resolving it. Concerns are often dismissed with responses like, “That’s just how it is,” even when it's clear that colleagues are burning out.

I didn’t feel supported by management during my time there. In contrast, coworkers were far more understanding and empathetic.

You’ll also encounter a fair number of difficult guests—especially around missed reservations or tours—and verbal abuse from customers can be frequent.

This job requires a thick skin and the ability to manage high-stress situations on your own without much guidance or backup.


As a dispatcher, a typical day at work was coming in, getting your coffee, going up to your desk, and going over the day. making sure all vehicles were properly assigned with their guides, and that there were no mistakes in the schedule. once the morning was taken care of and the tours were seen out, you jumped on over to humanity to take a look at the week and build your next schedule. there was a lot of conversations and phone calls between reservations, operations, guides, mechanics both local and out of town, arranging vehicles to be serviced and how they were gonna get there and back, and how long you were gonna be without said vehicle, as well as planning what you were going to use while it’s away. after all of that’s done, your phone calls at work are made and your schedule is looking good, take your lunch, and do it all over again 😅 but by far the most enjoyable job i had. 

As a guide, you can gain experience and make some good tips so that you can move on to a more realistic job. As long as guests have fun and stay safe, nothing else matters. People with post-secondary education  will recognize the lack of care that exists here outside of making money. Guides who get hired with nothing but a high school diploma think they are Gods of touring / public education but lack real skills and don't care to find them. The few excellent + educated guides that are employed here stay for the tips, and the fact you get to live and work outside in Banff. The company provides staff housing, which is decent, and also does monthly events for staff like pizza party. If you already have skills you want to grow, DBT is a great place to do that and expand your resume. Overall, the company provides a very good guest experience. Just not the professional environment I had hoped for. 

Firstly the positives. Some of the international staff were excellent.  So many of them were passionate about Canada, it's wildlife, and all the nature that surrounds Banff.  There would be a lot of glowing reports from customers about the various guides and drivers who work/worked here. Dealing with management and Canadian staff was a different story however. Extremely focussed on profit and working the office staff as hard as possible for poverty wages with promises of wage increases or bonuses that never eventuated.  When I asked for a pay rise they said I only worked hard for the last 2 days so I could look good for them?! Wtf? Within 1 week of starting there were multiple staff who were resigning or had resigned. Would not recommend.

DBT, has in the past few months been extremely accommodating. From time off too pay issues, the management is always willing to listen and resolve issues, even their owners are very approachable and helpful. 
The pay is a bit lower but fair considering the tasks performed and that it is a tipped position.
Opportunities fir advancement seem few and far between due too the smaller size, nature of and the length of time current staff stays. 
The job is great for younger folk, semi-retired people and others with a bit more open life schedual due to the constantly changing hours.
Overall I give DBT a 4 out of 5 and would recommend the employer to anyone interested

The management is the best. Never seen any managers or owners drinking with their employees. The owners are very thoughtful and respectful. The work environment isn't toxic like the other shops that I worked for. I learned a lot from the people in the shop. Unfortunately, I can't keep up with my bills as I have a family to support so I just decided to go back to the city. No regrets working for DJ'S. 

The company provided everything needed to get out there and run interpretive tours in Banff. The pay was average for Banff ( a town known for his rent and low paying jobs) The best part of this job was the opportunity to earn quite lucrative tips. A Lot of days I was earning $100 plus a day in tips, and sometimes even earning $200 or more. I looked at this job as a foundation to earn tips.

The management and owners were very supportive. The atmosphere was casual and almost family like. The hours can be erratic but thats the business. The fall/spring slow downs can be difficult if you havent saved a bit extra

Poorly managed. Turn over is quick new co workers every week. Extremely fast paced and not always the most positive environment. Staff housing is a life saver cost wise.

I worked as a driver guide here for almost 4 years. It was a great experience, where I learned lots and provided guests from all over the world with incredible experiences.
