Gatehouse has the potential to be an incredible company, however, it felt like management were preventing this. I got the impression that the business doesn't trust its employees. From my perspective management kept a very close eye on workers, as well as constantly overriding their suggestions/informed decisions which felt like it was beginning to foster an environment that allowed for little to no diversity of thought or opinion.

A culture of trust and value is essential for employees to feel invested in the company's success, which I don’t believe has been achieved at Gatehouse.

They have (or had?) an incredible team of talented individuals who are passionate about their work and trades, but management needs to give them the freedom to do their jobs without constant supervision. People are more likely to be invested in the success of the business and, as a result, ensure that projects are completed to a high standard and on time when they are given the freedom to make decisions and use their knowledge and expertise.

What stood out the most was the poor leadership within the company. It seemed like there was a lack of direction and a clear vision for the projects they undertook. The absence of strong leadership was reflected in the chaotic and haphazard approach to interior design. It felt as though decisions were made on a whim rather than through a thoughtful and informed process. You will work with management who feel threatened if you know more than them and will take all your work to present as if it was their own. Just dont, apply somewhere else as there are alot of developers to work for. Their office is very far for most who live in the city. My time there was spent with alot of stress, lack of direction, not enough pay for how many different roles I had. Their interview process is very length for a role that is paid the most average wage within BC. I would review their company structure, who is related to who before I start working there as I'm sure the most simple brained could understand that one!

What's sums up the managment style best is the phrase "rules for thee and not for me". 

Extremely inflexible managment style, meaning working remote is a not an option ever, even if you commute to work. Even though the leadership will not be in the office majority of the time and or choose to work remote frequently and lives locally.

Feels like you are walking around on egg shells depending on the mood of managment that day, if they come to the office. Managment has an inability to made decisions which is frustrating at times as they can be of minor and insignificant importance. Yet, when it comes to controlling and micromanaging employees, has no issue making decisions.

 Employees don't work here for long as the work environment is so negative and uninspiring.

Clearly there's no experience or empathy in managing and treating people with the respect and dignity they deserve.

Do not recommend applying here.

Inexperienced senior management and lack of business industry knowledge has created a huge negative void here. I do not recommend this to anyone wanting a long term position, as the vast majority of employees don't last past a year. There's a reason for this.

The level of disregard and lack of respect for employees from the top is astonishing.

Highly recommend working here if you agree with the following:

1.)No training (managment won't know any of the answers anyways)

2.)Expected to work over 40 hrs and not be compensated for it. 

3.)Working in an environment where employees are micromanaged to the extent of needing to write down when you leave and arrive back from  warming up your lunch.

4.)Enjoy the workload of 2-3 jobs and only get compensated for 1.




Gatehouse Senior Management was very approachable and always willing to assist with my desire to advance my career.  My daily tasks were defined and I am able to take on more advanced tasks that wasn't able to at my previous employer.  While they are still a new company, they have big plans for the future and I am excited to be part of this on the ground floor.

My direct supervisor is super knowledgeable in all aspects of construction management and seems to enjoy taking time out of their day to explain things to me. 

If you are looking to expand your career I highly recommend Gatehouse!


From labourers to management, have never seen such a high turnover rate.  Unorganized site crew with significant delays. you will be blamed for awful site conditions and lean crew. this developer is very new to the industry. Ive seen employees last as little as a few weeks. Do yourself a favour and look for employment elsewhere. 

You won't find job security here, as they will blame you and hold you accountable for their mistakes.
Mostly, management has no idea what they are doing. Try working in a management position where everyone thinks they are your boss and none of them have a clear idea of what your job is supposed to be. That's Gatehouse. Worst experience of my life. Literally.

Inexperienced managment has created major issues here. I don't recommend working here as leadership is extremely weak and inconsistent. Extremely high employee turn over. It had potential to be a thriving company if managment in place had interpersonal skills, and knowledge in the industry.
