You will be pressured to work extended shifts and often be forced to work mandatory overtime. If you work a typical 8 hour scheduled shift, and the next RN calls in sick, chances are you will be stuck at the facility for 16hours as staffing is limited and it’s challenging to find a replacement on short notice. I never had been forced into mandatory overtime in over 10 years of nursing, until I started working here and it happened VERY often. This is the type of situation that burns you out. In addition, the upper management team (Edmonton corporate) are unsupportive, borderline bullies. If you ever need to deal with them, you can expect to feel completely demoralized and broken by their lack of compassion. They do not run their operations very effectively. And they do not stand by their own code of ethics when it comes to how they treat their own employees.

The residents and coworkers.  One big family

Deciding if I can stay overtime when asked 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Easily paced, at times can be very busy. Culturally the work environment makes everything enjoyable  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Getting residents up, changed and dressed ready for breakfast in the morning and Lunch at noon.  Showers are given to those that are scheduled that day. Brief changes are made every couple hours Porter to weekly activities that day.  Garbage is taken out,  laundry is put in designated area for cleaning

Running with no on site manager for almost a yr
 Huge understaffed over worked underpaid. Staff are now trying to run the place no proper authority. 
Too many women working in one place HUGE GOSSIP PEN!! CERTAIN  STAFF always trying to cause  issues and back stabbing co workers. Acting manager from other site treats staff like high school children always calling ppl in for meetings and investigating gossip then punishment.  
It's not so Christian based as they like to advertise its terrible .ALL ABOUT THE MONEY !! RESTIDENTS ARE NOT TAKEN CARE OF HOW THEY SHOULD BE!   Some of the staff are Very uncaring poor work and don't care attitudes jst want the $$ Residents pay Way way too much money to live in this facility. 


Depending which site and department you work at staff are well trained and supportive. Some sites have high turnover. Salary is comparable but on the low side - again depends what designation you are. Welcoming place to work. The hardest has been being short staffed, but staff are hired regularly so it comes to being steady quick for front line, not so much for other departments, some spots are harder to fill so others continue working short. Management/leadership turnover can be difficult on staff for sure, that's happening quite a bit lately in some sites.

Flexible work schedule, good benefits,  vacation pay, well managed company.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Worker shortage!  The workload can be heavy. , due to not enough care staff.

Work environment is great, lots of support.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Helping patience to get the care they need.

The company over all is a good place to work and the job itself is very rewarding. The pay was horrible and insulting for what was expected of you. The supervisor believes that everything should be done factory line style -everything should only take twenty mins. There is no creativity or spending time on the clientele ;it is all about efficiency. Supervisor wanted everything done on a strict timeline. 

I love my job and feel very satisfied when I support individuals with their daily life routines and go home peacefully after finished my shift . 
Very comfortable atmosphere and supportive team to work with them . Our first priority is our individuals and their needs and supporting staff teach them social and basic life skills so they can feel more independent . Thats our goals. 


Working at Good Samaritan Society was good for experience. There was opportunity to work overtime which suplimented the income. The con was that you are very much a subject of the company. No extra time or energy for your own life.  Off time was good but that was used to get rested up for the next set of twelve hour shifts. 

Head office in Edmonton is disconnected from sites. They don’t solicit feedback or want it. Cutbacks during Covid was the most idiotic business move I ever saw. Everyone on the board of directors should be fire. They are the constant factor in all the confusion for the last 10 years.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Wages. OT. Being in charge as an LPN, not an RN.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Long 12 hour shifts. Don't like it when you call in sick.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly. 1 LPN ruined it for me. She's retired now.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy. Hectic. Lots of walking.
