Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa

The only thing I enjoyed about my time there was the beautiful scenery and some of my coworkers.

The job itself was rather awful. During my time there, I would constantly be put under stress due to unrealistic standards, be subject to racist and rude remarks, and finding that the majority of promised benefits weren't actually given. That being said, I found my manager to be very friendly and cooperative however it was one of the only nice things about working in such a toxic environment. 

The company does not care for its employees nor does it for the guests unless they pay ridiculous fees. 

To top it all off, I and other employees would have to beg for our pay as it wouldn't be the correct amount based on work completed or it wouldn't be given at all.

Altogether I'd recommend staying far away, but if you're set on the location you're much better off anywhere else.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Getting to help people. Most of your coworkers are awesome and nice and understand and willing to help
They dont train you and expect you to know everything. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working with coworkers who dont listen or help and get mad at you. And remembering wich tables to what numbers but thats rare to hapoen

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Culture is amazing theres so many different events and learning of cultures that you work inside and learn a lot. Work environment is ok i guess its good and fun but some coworkers arnt the best

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Setting up rooms of 5-25 tables and taking it down. Cleaning and organizing things, taking away dirty dishes and helping answer questions. And if your a bar tender you work at the bar. Usally buffet style. Rarly do we serve the food

The tourism industry is extremely interesting. 
I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with customers.
My manager swore all the time. Egged everyone against one another. Had staff members doing her reports.
I enjoyed listening to the veteran agents putting information together to correct a reservation. I was proud of them as they double checked things to be sure their customers were getting the best bang for their dollar.
I found that the agents worked against each other countless times. For no apparent reason they insulted one another and criticized instead of teaching and handling things together.
New comers to the job will never learn what it is to be a team. No management and unprofessional behavior growing like a bad seed will never allow this to happen.

The overall job, on the outside may seem worth it but after a while of working there you find yourself disliking the whole pace in its entirety. When working there it's very much cutthroat and competitve and not in a positive way. My mother worked there for 9 years and when she left she was very much relieved she left such a negative work place and I'm only being honest and I would recommend working there if you really want the money, experience and benefits. I'm glad I learned all I learned from there and I wouldn't change that and the people who own the Resort and spa are good people and I hope they catch on soon of how bad management is and hire people that are passionate about what they do or are at least motivated.

I worked here for several years and the best thing I ever did was leave. The environment was so toxic my mental health was at major risk and a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders once I was gone. Management doesn’t listen to the people who work first hand with the guests and they never take preventative measures to prevent obvious issues from happening. They wait until stuff hits the fan and then leave it to the workers to deal with it and be yelled at. There’s no trust in the employees at all when giving suggestions on how to make things better. I didn’t feel appreciated for my hard work either, except from my coworkers who were great and like family. Management is the biggest problem. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
GM does not communicate, F&B won’t communicate, Exec. chef incapable of communication.  Staff are either lifers or newbies, lifers strive to maintain their comfort level, which includes not providing critical information to the newbies.  Unsurprisingly the newbies quit, frustrated, and the lifers congratulate themselves on their loyalty and seniority

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Basically, putting out fires, mostly employee related

Harrison is a pretty gorgeous place to work and the view from the rooms is amazing. However working there or even staying there in the resort is terrible idea. The staff housing you have to pay for and after they pay you you have basically nothing left because the price of everything there is increased of course. The job itself was full of toxic/ drama behaviour which included the management. You were very rushed, which I didn’t mind too much because I thrive in fast-paced environments, however the amount of cleaning that had to be done with then time we had is pretty impossible and they absolutely didn’t care.

I was only  there for a few days but it was long enough to see how toxic and depressing that work environment was. Kitchens are busy yes but this place was a different busy everyone ran around like a chicken with its head cut off.   And if you asked anyone for directions or help they made you feel like you’re stupid or something for not knowing what to do (even if youd never been there)

And if you worked there while staying at the rooms/dorms forget it. They take the majority of your cheque off with the rent and food you eat there when youre at the restaurant working. 

I was glad I hitchhiked back to Vancouver and outta there

Rude managent with below average customer service skills. No training or job advancement opportunities. Borderline criminal narsacistic low skill supervisors who do their jobs by bullying people. 

Due to the COVID crisis they have decided to use it as leverage to get rid of all high payed empoyees with the intention of highering lower payed labour when the crisis is over. Constant lying and lack of communication from upper level management.
No social aspect to the job most people that work there dislike each other. 

There are some really amazing staff there but the Resort is being run into the ground. Heartbreaking for all the families who have been going there for generations and for all the folks who save and save to afford rooms and then feel ripped off.  No focus on improving things for guests or staff. Many major safety concerns. Run very inefficiently. Regularly turning blind eyes to horrible managers and staff who bully others or just flat out avoid taking responsibility for their jobs. Union is so disorganized and not strategic enough to actually help members.
