I have been on contract with Hazelview since July 3rd, 2023 (ends November 4th, 2023). During my time here I have experienced one of the best workplaces I have ever worked in. From the helpful and friendly staff at the buildings, to the upper management that I reported to, this experience has been one of my absolute favorites.  

The Person I reported to is one of the most amazing directors I have ever met and had the pleasure of working with. Regardless of how busy they were or if they were off work, they made themself available to me when I needed help or guidance throughout my time here. Their encouraging demeanor, their ability to reassure and supply positive feedback and guidance is incomparable to anything I have experienced before. Additionally, the two regional managers were both incredibly supportive and helpful with the day-to-day issues encountered, at some point during my time here I have needed to request help with getting items removed, facilitating entry for contractors, and resolving unforeseen issues for their regions and both provided that support, feedback, and experience to me during my time here.  

These people and many more are just a few examples of why Hazelview has been a wonderful place to work. The above shows that the environment fostered by your company is a positive one and that it radiates throughout the employees at all levels. The support, confidence, and amazing experience here will be a highlight of my career for many years to come. Hazelview has set the bar extremely high for future work environments. 

I really enjoy working at Hazelview, as a student school can be a very busy schedule, but work has always been flexible and understanding about school and work life balance. A typical day at work is usually filled with little projects that help out the PA's and managers but also helping out at residents at reception when I can. You get to learn a lot helping different departments in their own way.

I can truly say that management at Hazelview is amazing. My supervisor always makes me feel comfortable to ask for help and is always open and understanding to any situations you have. She is extremely hard- working and you can definitely get influenced and learn from that. She appreciates your achievements from little to big things and it not only helps you grow as a team member but also helps you grow as a person. Workplace culture is extremely diverse in the company. The colleagues I work with are extremely fun, positive and kind. When I first started working, they made me feel welcomed. They taught me everything and was extremely patient while I was learning. 

I think the hardest part of the job is definitely learning how to deal with different types of people and their attitudes, but you just got to remember to be patient. The most enjoyable part for me is being able to work with my colleagues and the fun events that the company does for the community!  

If you are moving into the leasing consultant role, ensure the hours they outline in your interview are documented in your contract. Hazelview has repetitively mislead employee prospects with misinformation about hours. Expect for there to be very little training (thankfully I was not new to the industry, but a company should have proper time aside for new employees to get up to speed with their new work place). They promise room for advancement while offering little support to achieve that advancement and there is favouritism involved as well. Unqualified people moving into bigger roles which further clouds the already unorganized environment. Also, you will be expected to do multiple deeply detailed reports on information that is already in their Yardi platform (waste of time). 

Work life balance is difficult in the sales role as your hours take up your entire day. 9-6 and 10-7 Tuesday-Saturday (again, make sure the hours discussed in your interview are in your contract because they are not accurate). 

“Splash days” during the summer, office closure at Christmas, and commission on apartments rented are the only positives of this company. 

A typical day at work felt well-structured and engaging, with a mix of administrative duties and team support. I learned practical skills like organization, communication, and problem-solving through real responsibilities. Management was understanding, flexible, and always willing to listen, which created a comfortable work environment. The workplace culture was friendly, respectful, and supportive. While the job required attention to detail and multitasking, it was a positive challenge. The most enjoyable part was feeling trusted, supported, and valued as part of the team while gaining meaningful experience.

I have been with Hazelview for almost 2 years now and in the property management industry for 9 years in total.  Property management is an exciting industry to consider a career in.  The day to day is never the same which eliminates the redundancy of repetitive work as you are often presented with exciting new challenges which require you to think outside the box and problem solve.

Hazelview has always treated me fairly and my leadership does their part to ensure that I feel valued.  I am proud to work for a company that cares so much about both their employees and their customers.  You get out what you put in when it comes to  growth and advancement as there are always opportunities that arise given the rapid pace in which Hazelview has been growing in the Edmonton market.

Overall a great company to work for with great benefits, competitive wages, and an amazing team!

The management team treats their employees like teenagers with zero trust and zero flexibility with working from home. 
There office hours are 8:30 am - 5:30pm which is not the norm in Toronto and is extremely difficult to change with HR/Management. 

All employees must work in the office 4 days a week no exceptions. As I am a father I was hoping to get some flexibility with working from home however HR and my manager were extremely unreasonable.

If you are interviewing for this company and you are fresh out of college/university then this could be a great fit for you. If you are 25 years old and older I would definitely look at working at another company. The company I was recently hired at has great flexibility and treats there employees like adults.

The turn over is very high at the support office level.

A lot of these "5 star reviews are simply made by the HR department" don't be fooled.

Went in wanting to make a difference and grow with the company. The company has a hard time with retention. When properties are to sell, they ensure you won’t lose your job then fire those reassured team members. Managers value favouritism. Management keeps you on your toes. Lots of new task to keep you busy. They regularly push you to go above and beyond your job description and provide empty promises for promotions. Yearly increases incline by 2% max. Old traditional values. The salary is very low and had to live off of. The workers who give back so much of their lives to the company aren’t valued. Head office and managers are recognized but not the team who supplies the answers to them. Rebranded months ago and still hasn’t supplied uniforms to maintenance workers. The team l cares for each other and wants everyone to succeed. Undervalued and under appreciated. 

I was not looking to change my career path but I am grateful to have taken the leap. I had a very comprehensive onboarding plan and the opportunities for continued learning and growth are endless. The leadership is open, transparent and supportive. The work culture is one that fosters creativity, integrity and allows team members to work to the best of their abilities. I am appreciated and validated for my contributions on a regular basis.

Hazelview is a company that takes pride in their relationships at all levels. The hands on support available to staff at all levels is a game changer.  They pride themselves in recognizing and addressing the needs of their employees and adapting to the ever changing climate.

As everyone works in Property Management knows, working in this profession can be challenging and stressful at times. I have been in Property Management for over 30 years, and have worked for someone of the bigger Property Management companies here in London and one in Toronto.  The Hazelview work environment by far the best I have worked in.  Management is very supportive with a team-oriented mentality, and my co-workers all work together and help one another no matter if it is technically their job or not. Having worked for other well-known companies that were just awful to their employees, I can truly say Hazelview treats me better than any other company I have worked for in this field.

I was a Maintenance Technician with the company for many years. I left because of poor work/life balance. I saw others with less time on the job and poorer work ethic get promoted. It came down to who you know. It helps if you speak Spanish. There was a lot of favoritism.
If you were just there for a paycheck, I guess it was ok. There was no pat on the back or recognition for effort or overtime. Help was not easy to get. It was not offered and you had to ask several times.
It help if you know Yardi, that is the main thing that is used for WOs.
The most enjoyable aspect of the job was getting to know the different buildings that they own.
