What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I don’t have any stress in my working environment. Management is hands-down with the team. If we have any issues, we can always go talk to management to talk about anything.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My shift flys by everyday. Busy and completed yes

You really can move through this company well if you work hard. Simple as showing up on time, willing to take extra shifts.
Starting low is starting low but most staff in homes had shift work so lots of spare time but did work all types of shifts (days, nights, afternoons and weekends) and many job postings available at times within the company (not just your location). Fair pay with good benefits. Some staff problems just like all places, long term staff with poor attitudes, but past that it was a decent work culture. 

I loved my job. Hated the management, micro managers who are unaware of reality. They think they know whats best and have never stepped a foot on the front line, you will rarely see them interact naturally with residents. They all have obvious favourites, they take part in the toxicity. Incompetence is rewarded and hard workers will be frustrated. If youre lazy and wont do your job they will love you. I was more tired working a 6hr shift than 12hrs manual labour because they are so understaffed.

I love working for Heartland! We're like a big family here. You will fall in love with the residents and enjoy being around them. Management is amazing. They are easy to talk to and don't micromanage! Your job is clear and you never have to stand around wondering what to do next. The staff are amazing to work with. We know how to be professional but we also know how to have a good time. 100% recommend working here. ❤

I worked at clover bar lodge as a dishwasher for one month, They ended up firing me because I left early one day, and showed up 3 minutes late a few days.  They do give you encouragement when you're doing a good job.  They will not work on you, If you make a mistake they will fire you without giving notice or feedback. Watch your back if you work here in Sherwood Park. Management is quiet but shoots you down.

All employees truly care about each other. Management & administration from head to toe are caring, kind, accommodating, & humorous! The residents are amazing, it’s like having hundreds of grandmas and grandpas. Everyday will bring new ideas, stories and laughs. There is a sense of family and I look forward to going into work every time. Highly recommend!

Worked for Heartland for many years. When staff  becomes family, this is the place! 
The days revolve around meal times, but the staff and people who live there make it fly by.


Poor training for management, unfair promotions to management “favourites”, lack of disciplinary action, and no sense of community. Senior management has their hands in site specific operations and make decisions without asking front-line feedback. Senior management does not respect front line employees. 

Highest standards in Affordable Housing in Alberta. Management were professional and friendly and were always "Proactive" in all dealings with Employees and Tenants alike. Rest of the Province in this employment category could learn a few things from these people.

Heartland housing staff and management are so kind and welcoming. I’ve worked as a dining room server for just about 2 years and I still have little to no complaints. It’s super flexible and overall a simple job. Totally recommend the dining room attendant position for students!
