Promotions happen because of who you know in top management and not who is actually the right person for a leadership role. People with less experience/training/education are promoted sometimes based solely on who they have in their corner. Equal opportunity hiring is a joke, at least in the mental health and addictions side of the network. People with bachelors degrees, just a few years on the job, no real leadership experience or little clinical mental health expertise are promoted above those with master's degrees and decades of experience. This is the reason there is so much incompetence at the management level. It's sad and frustrating, especially since our health care system is in such a crisis. I would never work for this organization again. Don't waste your time here if you want to develop or advance in your career. You will watch many people who are grossly under-qualified move up the ladder before colleagues who actually have common sense, the training and the experience to lead a team of clinicians. If you expect to have competent executives at the helm of the organization who make smart decisions, keep looking. Directors would rather fill management roles with under skilled puppets who do as they ask instead of promoting resourceful, properly educated and competent leaders who can solve problems and bring positive change to the healthcare system.

The staff members whom I worked with, directly, were a great help, and created a very healthy work atmosphere. 
Management, on the other hand, always seemed to hide important information regarding shifts, projects, jobs, etc, and seemed to apply a manipulative, sneaky approach to all of the above. Training was non-existent, even for specialized equipment that was part of our job description. They would schedule you for a week of afternoon shifts, instead of paying 2 hours of overtime - displacing a week of your life for the sake of saving $80. 
The union, CUPE, had us (tradesmen) outnumbered by approximately 41:1 and would use us as bargaining chips to negotiate their own raises, while holding us under. Even after discussing these issues with the president and chief shop steward, they said it was non of their concerns, we weren't going to be part of negotiations when it came time for contract renewal, and if we didn't like it... leave. These were the answers that we PAID for, with our union dues. 
After becoming fed-up, we signed a petition to leave, with over 80% total member signatures. We then proceeded to court, in an attempt to leave the union, which CUPE denied, followed by the paramedics, and currently the LPN's are fighting internally, which may lead to the same attempt to leave.
If you're looking for an easy work pace and don't mind being manipulated for a small salary, this may be your spot.

As a Casual Employee - this means you will be called if a need arises.

Based on the job that I am called to do, a typical day would be:

A) As the Administrative Support - ensure that all appointments are confirmed, all paper work is done and submitted to the relevant department for processing. Confirm with the Radiologist on duty any procedures so that the correct appointment and instructions are given to the patient. Ensure that all messages are checked and a respond is received by the patient.

B) As the Inventory Support - you would liaise with the Supervisor to ensure what items should be purchased. Items to be purchased are in two category (Fixed and Consignment) thus, open communication is important. There are deadlines to your submission of orders daily and as such, priority is given to ensure that these procedures are followed. Then you are required to scan all new items delivered plus remove items used by the Nursing staff in the department.

I cannot speak about the workplace culture as it is very wide.

I love these roles but the hardest part of the job is getting more hours.

The most enjoyable part of the job is ensuring that all customers involved are satisfied with my service provided.

A typical day as an environmental services attendant is you start out with a group huddle and energetic way to send you off towards your days chores. 
You assigned a location and it is your responsibility to ensure you follow the procedures laid out in the operation manual on how to effectively clean and sanitize for the safety of your location and it’s frequenters
Culture is amazing and everyone is so helpful
The only con of the job is it is a highly frequent location so there is a lot to clean
There are just way too many positives of the job to list but my favourite part is just how we welcoming and friendly everyone is! 
And how fulfilled you feel after knowing that you have done your part and keeping people safe!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The pay that place is a toxic environment where management like to bully and belittle their employees 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The management there like to bully their employees they have no clue about the tasks that are required because they have never done it . And they have favorites and do not hide that fact 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful and back stabbing people there can not be trusted and you have to watch your back constantly 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It’s a hard place to work at and you cannnot wait for the day to be done

I enjoyed very much working with the Veterans there and building a better quality of life in the long-term care facility. It was a great place to assess their needs and manage my own time to appropriatey meet those needs. The management, however,  is very top heavy and changes that could naturally flow best to suite the unique needs of one location do not happen because of this. The hardest part was seeing more needs than I had time to offer patients, and having to prioritize one patient's need over another. The work culture of the location was overall very pleasant. The staff are client focused and care for them very well. Some communication could be improved on, however, I enjoyed my time there overall.

Pros: 
-You're compensated very well, especially for NB standards
-The social network is HUGE and many of your coworkers will become your best friends. Expect to make great memories with good people if you are kind and keep and open mind.
-Opportunities to pick up shifts even if you have a casual or part-time position

Cons:
-Often understaffed hence my last point. Canada's bed shortage crisis often leads to staff burnout so make sure you take care of yourself.
-Staff experience is highly dependent on which manager you get
-Expect to get sick more often your first year working there. Your immune system has to adjust to getting bombarded with weird germs all the time.

The duties required to perform job are okay. 
Culture is toxic. It feels like going to high school everyday. Nobody wants to train anyone. People purposely withhold information to watch and take pleasure in others failures as a result. .Recognition for good work done  is not part of the culture. The only way to survive is to become part of a clique.  Praise and positive feedback is only given to the management close friends. Employees are treated disrespectfully. Saving lives is the only positive about working for Horizon. Those who try to speak up are retaliated against. Management and Human Resources are inept and spiteful.

The best part of working for Horizon is the income potential.

Lack of communication with Management and no support from Management.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is the most toxic environment I have ever worked in. To succeed it’s definitely a who you know and who can you step on to move up the ladder!

It’s stressful, chaotic, and miserable.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing. The employees and management are childish and vindictive.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Having an axe blade over your neck each day.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Terrible. Petty fight infighting amongst staff and lack of motivation. FInger-pointing was commonplace.
