Iron Horse

A typical day at work was boring, it was security work, not much to say about that to be honest.

I learned that the Science and technology museum has 3 whole warehouses of other stuff just ripe with interesting historical quips. I also learned a lot about the history of canada and its various advances.

The boss at the science and technology museum was fantastic. He was kind but firm, nonetheless. My complaints are with Iron horse itself. Specifically with the person that replaced the other shift supervisor when the old one left. This man was callous and rude. He always had a holier-than-thou attitude that just made you grind your teeth, At first I didn't expect him to be anything other than a rude nuisance I had to deal with every now and again but I was wrong. I won't go into detail but suffice to say he was fired shortly after a few incidents regarding behavior unbefitting of his station, and a few incidents that weren't entirely legal as far as dealing with employees go. That's all I'll say about that.

The hardest part of the job was staying awake, honestly. There is so little that happens, which is for the best, to be honest. It's always better that nothing happens rather than something bad.

The most enjoyable part was being in contact with clients, customers and just the public in general.

This place is dangerous, they give you a book that explains the company but don't actually follow it. This company is profit before staff safety. Hourly checks are not done, they put staff at risk by putting them at high risk site and never tell them tge truth about it. When something happens they down play it and give their staff no means of protection for these high risk sites. Its is you in only a uniform dealing with, Alcoholic's, Drug addicts and people who are mentally unstable. But they will tell you we have done a risk assessment, and we haven't had any problems. Yet Ottawa Police call these sites a "Hot Spot" for crime and criminal behavior. Don't trust them at their word, because if you do you might get stuck in one of these sites.

I enjoy working here. During business hours, one must be able to deal with difficult situations under pressure while staying calm and communicating effectively to the clients. 

During after hours, there is a lot of downtime that may be useful for University Students, such as myself, to work on essays and do readings. 

Also, my coworkers and the site leads have all been nice people.

They are quick with providing hours. They often have a lot of shifts because they often under bid competitor. The negative to that is a large degree of minimum wage shifts. They don't often provide opportunities for improvement or advancement. They have also been bought by multiple people in the last few years.

awesome company, i liked 7 days on and 7 off but no over time, great pay but its stays the same for years so ya i think that all i can say because it been a while since i worked there just needs work with management and stress

Great expiernece fairly easy and understanding people best way for volunteer hours i did it in high school amd it was great made some friends and memories

iron horse a good company. Main focus of the company is professionalism. There is no need  to worry about anything while working with iron horse.i really have good experience.

They where long days but its good pay and the work wasnt to bad, the enchaged and people around where helpful and comprensible.

I did the training but i didn't get the certificate to work.
It was not a job
