Kicking Horse Mountain Resort

Truely enjoyed my coworkers and the skiing. Mornings at the top of the lifts were often magical as you watch the sun rise and light up the mountainscape. Inversions were breath taking. Leadership was very inexperienced and had no idea of how to effectively deal with staff conflict, discipline or morale. I would work there again if the management was different. Guests and staff were generally great, working conditions were as expected for a lift operator, pay is terrible, no ride breaks due to lack of staff, poor to no effective training, learn on the job. If you want to ski and can ignore the silliness, then it is worth working here.

Great mountain to work on lots of riding of opportunities, basic lift huts that are too cold with very long work days and some lifts your at dont have access to toilets. 

Mangment doesn’t let you rest enough to do the job safely as bumping chairs in cold weather for 10 hours is not good for your joints! Some lifts are old and need to be checked for safety as they come off the bull wheel to fast to bump or are being bumped right off the wheel which has a
Major impact on you body

Staff is way under paid. Practices are blackages, instead of a proper accounting software everything is done via excel spreadsheets. So much chance for human error. Corporate never visits or understands your roles. Employees are under appreciated. Huge employee turn around. 

Paid very poorly, worked with great guys all around. Maintenance always gets the scraps but when a lift goes down we’re getting calls before it comes to a stop. Great place to start your apprenticeship and do level 1 and level 2. Once you are a second year it’s time to move on and get some real experience that will strengthen your skills. 


80% of workload is preventative maintenance.
Was a fun place to do an apprenticeship. Old fashioned operation. Awesome little party town. Can’t mind working at heights and extreme weather. 4 10 hour days. long weekends every week. Awesome powder days. Hard to get ahead. Expensive town to buy realestate.

At the resort level it’s great, when you have to deal with the extremely disconnected head office things change quickly. They would be a more efficient, better run, more profitable company with a significant downsize of the head office staff, particularly at the VP level. Too many people with input on things they don’t understand.

Kicking Horse is a great place to learn, as you can take on lots of responsibilities. Great entry level positions, especially in more year round positions such as I.T,  human resources, sales and marketing and maintenance.  It is a hard place to get promotions and advancements and for this reason, there is lots of turn over. 

I loved my management and I really enjoyed what was provided for us as employees, especially the ski pass and the local deals around town. There are friendly people to work with, and it feels like a grand sense of community .

Usually don't get your 40 hours a week. Management didn't do a good job In keeping things fair. They definitely had favorites and people they didn't like as much. 
If there is no punishment for bad behaviour and no reward for good behaviour where is the motivation?
